Just curious: Jerry did the national broadcast but they would periodically cut back to a local broadcast studio while Jerry took a break. In the NYC metro area, the local host for many years was Tony Orlando. Who was the host of the local broadcast where you guys lived? ๐ค
Tom Tell (@thomastell.bsky.social) reply parent
It was always around 6:30pm or so in NYC when he'd end the show with this. I still give to MDA. youtu.be/UqYkxAKcmyw?...
Tom Tell (@thomastell.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, no. I'm not MAGA nor a Trumper in any way, shape, or form, but if you believe setting up a "rules for me, rules for thee" scenario didn't play right into their hands, you're kidding yourself.
Tom Tell (@thomastell.bsky.social) reply parent
This disparity helped give MAGA a position on the moral highground.

That article was written less than 3 months after the initial shutdowns began in the U.S.

Compliments on the article. And regards to Professor Dunsel, staff writer at @theatlantic.com. Wesley out.

I've been working with personal computers for over 40 years and I've built a bunch of them over those years, but, even now, I dread having to work on setting up new wireless equipment and connections. It's always "something"... ๐ซค

August 1970. Casey is only a couple of months into this new #AT40 radio countdown gig. I wonder if he ever imagined that, 55+ years later, it would still be going strong or that people would also be listening to the reruns of the older episodes? ๐ค Take us away, Jezz!

If I have one minor complaint about SNW, it's that the ratio of fun vs. more-serious episodes is high, even compared to TOS, which wasn't afraid to be silly *every now and then*.

It was the way he spoke that reminded me of Sheldon, almost to the point that I thought he may have been imitating him a bit.
Tom Tell (@thomastell.bsky.social) reply parent
I liked it too, though probably not as much as you. I did enjoy Anson Mount's Vulcan interpretation. It struck me as being very much like the Sheldon Cooper character in "The Big Bang Theory", especially considering how Sheldon always looked at himself as being like Mr. Spock.

I've been a Dem for 40+ years and I'd much rather have Never-Trumper former Republicans like yourself in my party than the groups who do nothing but complain, b*tch, and moan, and then stay home on election day because their one particular, parochial issue isn't the key plank in the party platform.

Tom Tell (@thomastell.bsky.social) reply parent
Fairly certain ๐ข๐ฏ๐บ potential Democratic candidates would be infinitely better than Trump + every other Republican. If that alone isn't enough to make people show up to vote, then we all better buckle up and get ready for Trump Part 3.

Good segment. The caller from Houston, TX made a good point about his MAGA neighbors that I've also seen here in NJ - they will never vote for a Democrat and they will always vote Republican even if that means someone like Trump. Right now, Dems need to start voting like that too.

I've been voting Dem for 40+ years. I voted for Mondale against Reagan and watched him get destroyed by a party that, just ten years earlier, had been humiliated by Watergate. My dad, a union guy, veteran, and lifelong Dem, used to say that "Democrats could f*ck up a wet dream." He wasn't wrong. ๐คจ
Tom Tell (@thomastell.bsky.social) reply parent
Instead of them trying to change your mind - a guy who voted ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ Clinton, Biden, and Harris - maybe it would make more sense to try to change the minds of the 200K voters in four swing states who gave the 2024 election to Trump, as well as the millions of 2020 Biden voters who simply stayed home. ๐ค
