Star Trek, my dad watched it all the time when I was a kid and I thought it was the most boring thing. Later on we watched Stargate SG-1 together, those are nice memories for me. Funny enough, my daughter is really into The Octonauts, which is like Star Trek in the sea for kids.

Oh, this is a poster I made for a fanfiction I wrote back in 2009 crossing over Kingdom Hearts 2 with Silent Hill, haha. It was popular enough it even has its own TV Tropes page which I think is pretty funny. I took it very seriously

We bought this "Cat Coloring" book for my daughter, but some of the artwork is kind of suspicious, looks potentially AI-generated. Disappointing to have to worry about this.
I had a dream this morning I started taking commissions again... this seems crazy considering I won't even draw for myself, but I've always found it easier when someone is telling me what to draw rather than just drawing whatever I want. 😩

This kind of haunts me to this day where I still feel reluctant to look up reference or even shoot my own reference photos or videos because it feels like "cheating" even though this is absurd.
My relationship with learning to draw and referencing is complicated. My early experiences on the Internet taught me that referencing = bad, and I was too young to understand the subtleties of it (that claiming others' work as your own is what's bad, not referencing)
While scanning my old #sketchbooks I've encountered a number of places where pages were torn out and it seems like in some cases those were places I had done some referenced anatomy drawings or life drawings that I later ripped out so no one would see them.
Haha, I'm just glad someone enjoys seeing them! They really are ancient, one of my cats was camped out nearby while I was scanning last night and he kept violently sneezing.

I often drew on the back of my #sketchbooks and disposable paint palettes, I'm sure I have more but here are a few.
It's taking me a while to get through my boxes of loose drawings for my #sketchbooks project because I saved every scrap of paper I doodled on, so I am going backwards through time scanning stacks of school notes that I scribbled in the margins. I think these are all from Senior year.

I had trouble drawing the middle toe which is why I think I gave everything three bulbous toes 😅 later I was just like "Oh yeah my furrecat species only has three toes in the front it's just a thing"

Absolutely begging Google Docs to add a "remember where I left off" feature... my novel is over 300 pages long, even with headings for each chapter I am just endlessly scrolling through thousands of words of text every single time I revisit the doc, it is getting old

I've been reading Vinland Saga since around 2009 so this is kind of expected but still shocking for me. I only read the collected English volumes anymore so hopefully I can avoid spoilers until then. I still think it's one of the best manga ever made, and the anime is not bad either.
The physicality of your shots is amazing, can I ask your process for shots with a lot of locomotion, like Jinu and Rumi walking/climbing stairs or Rumi going down the stairs? Do you start with a cycle and embellish it, or approach each step one at a time?
I'm used to having dreams about going back to elementary or high school for whatever reason but lately I am having dreams about going back to college and I don't know what to make of that. Struggling to find my park and find my class, standing in a cramped sea of animation desks, etc.

Finished my first draft last night, despite Google Docs' best efforts 🎉🎉 Longest thing I've ever written. These characters will live rent free in my head for all time. 😮💨
Oh boy, nothing makes your butthole clench like getting to the end of a 150k word novel you're writing in Google Docs and triggering this warning. Luckily so far it reverts like one word, but I have many many backups.

I loved the movie, but I also figured out the whole plot just from the soundtrack. It's not trying to do anything groundbreaking. I don't feel like "I want to know more about the lore and characters" is a bad thing to come away with. There's room for more stories to be told in this universe.
This seems like an incredibly cynical take considering the film launched with like 8 pieces of merchandise and the plushie for the tiger is just a pre-order that went up later. I also personally don't feel like the folklore had to explain itself.
I'm... a little annoyed to see people say they're surprised to see someone laid off because they're "so talented". The implication seems to be that layoffs happen to people whose skills aren't valuable. Layoffs are a business decision and have nothing to do with skill level or experience.

We had the designs made into stencils and we painted them on the wall, this was the end result.
I don't think I shared these here, they're designs for little astronaut bunnies my husband and I made for our daughter's nursery in 2023.

Recently I watched a couple art time lapses and was struck that other people also noodle anatomy and stuff using the transform tools when drawing on the computer? I only ever see the beautiful finished art so I guess I just assumed everyone made perfect drawings on their first attempt. 🤷🏼♀️

Ah cool, every studio defines titles differently so it's hard to know what the job expectations are between supervisor and lead, sometimes leads only ever manage other animators and sometimes it's just the title for the most senior animators
Every project I've ever worked on was very very hard to work on. Afterwards I always forgot how miserable I was. I never meant to end up in games, I wanted to work on films, but I have the feeling the grass isn't really greener on the other side, it's just a different kind of grass.
I hope once the film has been out for a bit so it's not spoilers we can see some of the shots you worked on 😊
Wow that's nuts, definitely film gets to do cool stuff like that that you can't really do in games 😅 as a lead did you do draw overs to suggest how to correct shapes to be more appealing graphically?
The movie also has a lot of forced perspective during action sequences that I imagine was tough to get the poses looking just right in motion without looking odd. It's the sort of thing you can usually only do in 2D but we're getting there with 3D it seems!
Doing 2D anime styles of faces in 3D seems like the most obvious innovation, I haven't seem anyone else pull it off as well, but I was also looking at Rumi and Mira's long hair going guhhh. 😂 I don't know how much of that is animator controlled and how much is simulated.
I have so many questions about the rigs, I hope they do like a behind the scenes thing. I also hope it does well so they make merch and I can get Bobby's shirt 😂
Once in a while I see an animated movie that absolutely makes me sob because it reminds me of how much I love animation and makes me wish I could have worked on it, but I completely failed at following my dreams, so it was never meant to be. K-Pop Demon Hunters was so good.
I haven't even heard of some of these? I didn't mark any I've only seen one or two episodes of (it's a lot). I have a weekly anime night group that's been getting together to watch anime for like 12 years or something.

Starting to thumbnail out some ideas for an animation for Tigrin, but it's been about 10,000 years since I last drew him
Yeah my FPS skills are middling at best but I got better through the years of playtests, haha. Cleaners were my favorite, but at the end I was having fun playing the Wolves faction with a literal wolf face. Legion was a fun gadget.
Played a few last matches of #XDefiant until the servers shut down. I feel like I did most of my grieving back in December, but still a difficult day. I'm really grateful for all the players who played and gave their all up until the very end. Last few matches were so sweaty, lol.
Still, games like XDefiant rely on servers and the multi-player experience, so once they're gone, they're really gone. I know millions of people played it and I hope they at least made some good memories. It's the risk of live service games, many of which are going in the dustbin of history.
Ports, emulators, and remakes keep old games alive, but it's a hurdle that doesn't really exist for viewing digital copies of old films. Film and television are just more accessible; though the streaming era means things come and go without any permanence, or are never even released.
One of the bummer of game development is its short shelf life. You spend years of your life hoping to make an experience people will enjoy and remember. But the hardware changes so often that games become literally unplayable after a certain amount of time.

Already mentioned but yeah, probably rotoscoped. Famous example would be the cardboard cars with lines drawn on them used for 101 Dalmatians in 1961, though in that case they just Xeroxed photos right onto cells. Not that I don't think it's doable to freehand it, but it probably wasn't.

Some #sketchbooks drawings circa 2012 based on the subjects... it looks like I drew these on a pad of storyboard paper with mechanical pencil? They're nice. When I see stuff like this it makes me sad I gave up on art
My original idea was to scan everything and have a bonfire where I burn the originals (in my creative writing club in high school we did this every summer with the submitted work for the magazine to "release the creative energy") but after seeing some of these I am having second thoughts...
