ICYMI: A group of admin law scholars sent a letter to the House & Senate Appropriations Committees arguing why "pocket rescissions"—the idea that the president can propose rescissions of budget authority late in a fiscal year and then allow funds to expire while the proposal is pending—are illegal.

Lots of people with questions about this The government said there were 76 putative class members (children) loaded on planes yesterday But the putative class covered by the judge’s order isn’t limited to kids that were loaded on planes for imminent deportation That’s why the ~600 estimate

I wonder if Mr. Ensign might be hiding behind the phrase “putative class members,” so that the govt could transport others which they could later claim did not fall into the class. Has anyone checked the flight records of that Global aircraft?

I'm not a lawyer, but if what the Trump Admin was doing here was so lawful and noble ("reuniting Guatemalan kids w/their families"), why were they doing it in secret, in the middle of the night, during a holiday weekend? And why does DOJ need until Friday to explain their actions?
Tim Rand (@timrand.bsky.social) reply parent
Again I say that DOJ is negligent and disbarment of the lawyer and his support staff should be considered. This is appalling.

Always look at the data yourself. But also know the limits of your ability to interpret it. 🧪 Experts are experts because they spend their lives learning everything about one tiny thing. They can put that thing into context. They know the literature about it. They can debate its nuances. 1/3

How can he not be aware? Either he or his clerks MUST have known and if the clerks didn’t tell him, that’s a dereliction of duty on their part.

DEVELOPING: Advocates are seeking a court order to block the Trump administration’s effort to deport hundreds of unaccompanied minor children to Guatemala. Judge abruptly moved 3 pm hearing up to 12:30 after she was notified that some children “are in the process of being removed" today.

While cycling in Ireland recently, I was hoping that drivers weren't looking down at their mobile phones. These roads have a 100 km/h (62 mph) speed limit, and no shoulders. 😰 I said to the other cyclist as I passed him, "Well, at least if we die, it'll be spectacular".

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.

I dare you to go to Annunciation School and tell our grieving community, in effect, guns don’t kill kids, antidepressants do. Just shut up. Stop peddling bullshit. You should be fired.

Four students were shot and wounded by a classmate yesterday at a high school in Dallas. This is the school’s second shooting in a year, and comes as lawmakers are pushing 17 bad gun bills—including two that would allow 18 year olds to carry guns in schools. More guns in schools is NOT the answer.

This administration does not care that guns are the leading cause of death for American children and teens. This comes on the heels of the removal of the surgeon general’s report declaring gun violence a public health crisis and other data and resources about gun violence.

I am appalled at what trusted media sources are saying about Elon Musk’s actions. Whether they are “authorized” by the president or not, we are allowing non-governmental individuals with access and control to systems and processes where they have no business.
