Just want to clarify, I get that these tariffs aren't made in an economically an socially sound way or even half-way thought through. It's just the part where people think not being able to buy a 700 USD fountain pen without added tax or customs is going to kill the hobby that seems a bit odd.
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
Seeing US people panic over the Trump tariffs feels a bit weird to be honest. Like, there's plenty of more objectionable politics coming from your neo fascist overbuttface. But once postal services & sellers have figured out how to handle the tariffs, it will just be more like what we have here? 3/3
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
If it's above 150 EUR, the seller doesn't need to collect the tax. It'll be added at border/by courier service together with the duty fees that are also due beyond that threshold. Duty fees also differ according to different product groups. 2/3
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
In Germany we don't even have a de minimis. If it's 150 or less Euro in value, you ONLY pay import tax (7 or 19 % depending on type of product). Sellers are obligated to collect the tax themselves if they want to export to EU. 1/3
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
A quick Reddit search will show you more but main points of criticism are that they rebrand cheap Chinese pens to sell them at ridiculously high prices and use of AI "art".
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
You might like to try Kobeha Graphilo paper, too. It is kind of expensive but it's excellent for fountain pen. Decent dry times, crisp lines, great colour rendition, and it shows off sheen and shading very well. It's just a little bit textured.
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
Apica seems to have some problems with consistency of quality. The one notebook I got from them (CD Premium) had massive issues with bleed-through. Yurisari paper is very nice (and affordable!) although I have seen people complain about qc as well.

Ah, of course. Thank you! Didn't click for some reason. Thanks for the list, too!

Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
The swatch card is Jaquere paper by Wearingeul, the notebook is 68gsm TRP Sanzen. I got a bottle because it's a great neutral colour for my ochre/yellow-coded Thursday journal entries.

Anyone else fascinated by the developments on wplace? They illustrate so clearly what fascists are all about and what destruction they wield on society. Not like there's a lack of real-world examples, I know, but this one is so clear and easy to see.

Sailor Yukiusagi might also work. It's a blueish grey that shades warm green. Very pretty. FWP Storied Blue is a Celadon Cat lookalike that is just slightly more blue-leaning, giving it a cleaner look.

Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
Lamy pens and accessories are the absolute worst to clean. I don't get how they make it so that the ink gets stuck in places where you never can fully remove it. In all three, cartridge, converter, and pen itself. None of the other brands I use have this problem.

So, AI in the workplace. We're supposed to start using it, let it do the rough work, then control and fine-tune. But studies show that our brains stop working well when we use it, so how is this control supposed to happen? 1/x

AI art debate. Has anyone written about how this removes the last shred of scruples, a conscience from the production of "art" that a large numbers of people will consume? The artist "class" used to hold a little power against dictators.

Thanks for explaining! I seem to remember that there has also been a study or something that showed that false self-diagnosis is very rare, and that most people who self-diagnose as autistic actually are autistic. But I can't vouch for how reliable the info was, I don't have a link either.
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd turn to Reddit for that: r/fountainpens will answer her questions, and r/Pen_Swap is good for selling, buying, trading fountain pens.

Yes, and very judgemental about traits that they have worked hard on suppressing themselves. Being late diagnosed, I see this in myself and have to actively work on changing my own reactions.

I hate that I need so much more time and effort for everything, too. Wouldn't be so bad if there was less pressure to perform, compete, etc.
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
Mine stopped happening after a certain age when pressure/demand was too high. What sometimes works for me now is reading the text I'm working on out loud in funny voices, or if the task is less text-based, voice-stimming along with music. Good luck!
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
Thank you. I am not sure I am reading you correctly now. You said you were leaning toward feeling off about #actuallyautistic and that you think I agree, but I kind of was defending #actuallyautistic. Am I not getting something? 😅
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
I get that it can be hard looking at autistic people who seem to fare better than oneself. Like many younger autistics I see are able to do things I cannot or can't anymore. They are still autistic.
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
Very few, if any NT want to be autistic. If someone is mistaken in their self dx, it's not like they are taking away any ressources from anyone. At best it helps them on their way of figuring themselves out.
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a bad take. You are strengthening predominantly neurotypical voices, that try to ridicule autistic self-advocates through this narrative. Just really not helpful in times of a rising fascism that is already targeting us.

Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
How they look depends a little on the paper used and the pen. On Tomoe River paper both inks look teal-ish in swatches - but not in writing. They look warmer on Jaquere swatch cards. Also, they are VERY similar. I'm not entirely convinced they are different inks at all.

I still feel that in completely uncapped pens, the dry-out time would depend on the ink rather than the pen. But I might be wrong. If you like easy slip-on caps, the Pilot Prera cap is really nice. It slides on very smoothly, then a little increased resistance and a small, satisfying click.
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
The lightly capping probably makes a difference. I've noticed the Capless drying up quickly when not clicked shut, too, lately.
Tina Na (@tinaeeeeeee.bsky.social) reply parent
I think you'd rather be testing the ink this way. The only thing keeping the nib from drying up is the cap seal. Have you tried the Pilot Capless/Vanishing Point or any of its clones?
