I have so many feelings about this and I don't know any of their names; time keeps being tectonic, like nothing is happening, and then--
my toddler's first day of school was today and someone at the school snagged a photo of him and his big sister walking hand in hand through the school doors and I think if I was a museum this photo would be in the lobby and 12 stories tall

daughter made lemonade for a lemonade stand but she only made enough for one pitcher so she sold out in about eight minutes and then all our neighbors came by to support her and she had to turn them away 🤣😭

truly had the most stupendous luck that day, looking back I had zero idea how anything worked; you make it in NY by dumb luck and listening to the ppl who yell at you
when I moved to NY I remember this guy in a beamer yelling at me to pull over and he stopped me from doing this. I backed up illegally, took a random turn, got lost for two hours, found the place, dropped the truck off, then got on the first bus I saw which deposited me 2 blocks from my new place
(we have a giant hutch at the foot of our bed and he was rooting around for a blanket and didn’t know it would close that loudly)
today I discovered the scariest silence in the world is the ellipses between a THUMP upstairs and your toddler shouting “I’m OK!!!”
anyone can have an idea for a novel. but writing a novel? anyone can do that too. all you need to do is get creative. for example, create a new meaning for “writing a novel.” like “making a sandwich.” “writing is not writing,” you wisely whisper, reaching for the sourdough.

maybe because my youngest’s school orientation is this week but I am once again thinking of this parent who showed up to my daughter’s pre-k orientation in a Qanon t-shirt
I remember this book people were raving about years ago and the MC’s dad’s job was literally just that he worked in a factory “moving boxes,” the most inane, laziest swipe to get some blue collar clout imaginable. Never despised a book so quickly before.
I went through this. I realized the thing I needed to quit was “the point,” not the poetry. I’ve come to believe (or hope?) these crises are growing pains…
have you ever encountered a beauty so rare, so limned with light, yet also poised in a singular moment wrought with little more than your held breath and compelled witnessing, such that you feel what drams of agnosticism that have puddled in your soul suddenly evaporate

saw a video where Trey Parker talked about how stories built on “and then, and then” are boring, but stories built on “therefore” and “but” are much more compelling (I too am trying to teach my nine year old about writing)

don't correct me about things I said your not knowing me is why you don't know that I believe my reading and my writing practices are deeply entwined you had no context about me because you didn't bother to look, you just saw an opportunity I am telling you to stop doing this bc it doesn't work
inserting a pitch to buy your book into my early morning ruminations about writing will not generate a sale, I am sorry. whoever told you this is a worthwhile strategy was wrong. honest engagement and community building *is* *a* way to go about this, but it's a lot harder than random posts.
