Yes! That movie made me cry. So did the Dog Man movie. And the Willy Wonka movie that came out last year too. (I might need to stop watching movies with my kid. Not sure my heart can handle it 🤣)

Wonderful insights. Thank you for sharing this. It's exactly what I needed to hear today, in the last hurrah of what's been a pretty dismal summer for my inbox.
Tracie Renee (she/her) (@tracierenee.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm really grateful for your transparency (and that of the blogger) because it's been mostly a pretty brutal and depressing summer for my inbox, and I too have been feeling like a fraud. But you're right: it's really about the craft and the community.

Ha! Similarly, I started a painstakingly detailed outline w/ Save the Cat beats for a YA dystopia in May but got stuck on where to start the story. So last week, my brain was all "Ok, let's just start writing a MG about this completely different thing w/ no outline" & now I'm on chapter 7 🤷♀️

🤣 There used to be a passage in my #amquerying #MG #NIV where the protagonist's mom offers to get dessert...and then comes back with fig newtons...and much groaning ensues. I ended up cutting the scene but the feelings in it aren't wrong 😆

I very much appreciate this kind reminder. It honestly does help, knowing that the struggle is part of the art. Thank you!

Oh, that is exactly the other problem we've been having here--the insect symphony is very metaphorically beautiful but also really, really loud (and it's not even a news-worthy brood year). I suppose it really isn't summer until you have to shut the windows to hear the person next to you talking.
Tracie Renee (she/her) (@tracierenee.bsky.social) reply parent
I love both of these, Susan. Tender metaphors tenderly layered 💙

Thank you, Jane! (Lately, though, I wouldn't mind so much if they sang a bit quieter. Had to close the windows the other day just to hear my kid talk!)

I'm so glad to see this one getting some love here (thank you!) because I really struggled to get it written this week. So much staring at a blank page! So much erasing! So much yearning to throw my laptop out the window! So much wishing I were a cicada instead of a would-be writer.

Oh, how neat! I love the way Taiko combines music with dance to tell stories--it is the most joyful thing I've ever watched. I'd really love to learn but our temple is just a bit too far away for me to commit to practices at this point in my life. Maybe someday 🤞
