I’m watching HARD EIGHT. This film has not aged well. I will say more later. May follow it with BOOGIE NIGHTS. Not really looking forward to it. I think BN is one of the most overrated films of the last 40 years. All style, no substance. But I plan to rewatch all of PTA before OBAA.

If you haven’t seen it, THE LONG GOODBYE (1973), one of my favorite new-to-me movies, is on Prime and leaving in a week. Terrific performance from Elliot Gould as a lovably schlubby rake-stepping noir detective. Can’t recommend it enough. Best watched with your undivided attention

An odd one. There are some really credible performances (Bo Hopkins is really great). A B-plot about anti-Native American racism is given weight and feels progressive for the genre at the time. But the central slasher narrative and reveal don’t add up. There is an end credits ballad though!
I put on THE LIMEY. This movie is aging well. Works better as an “old movie.” The fact that so much of the principal cast is gone now adds a poignance to it that fits the theme. Even Dinah’s, the chicken restaurant Stamp and Warren visit on Sepulveda Blvd., is gone.
