Essentially in Eoin’s head, Reform voters are virtuous red wallers left behind by Labour not promising full Corbynism. Which is a misdiagnosis on a number of levels.

(I honestly don’t understand the “he wasn’t English/didn’t visit England” as a gotcha. Only one of our four national saints is from the country he is saint of! St George isn’t special in this, but nobody feels the need to lecture the Scottish about St Andrew)
Twlldun (@twlldun.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, not so much, I more respond to the “he was Palestinian/turkish” claim. Although, he’s not the patron saint of Palestine, he’s the patron saint of Palestinian Christians, which is a distinction

Oh god I’m going to have medievalists popping up in my mentions arguing over when England formed now. I don’t care about your Heptarchy, mate, do one.
Twlldun (@twlldun.bsky.social)
Look, it’s simple, “National cuisine” is *only* dishes that people were eating before the formation of the country, so in England’s case, nothing is allowed after - say - Athelstan. That will make everyone happy

The president has executive power! There is a *lot* of stuff he can do even without the senate and Congress
Twlldun (@twlldun.bsky.social) reply parent
I think on the major issue that affects most of us - which is foreign policy, which of course the president has executive power on - Trump is erratic and narcissistic but able to be flattered into different positions, whereas Vance is just blatantly ideologically lined up with the bad people.

Twlldun (@twlldun.bsky.social) reply parent
I mean, all true, but we would still have three and a half years of that guy with executive power and he’s ideologically much more coherent than Trump (in a bad way) and I would guess much less easily distracted

Yeah, that’s it entirely. It’s an incredibly tempting misread (clarity on this not exactly helped by Eastwood’s actual real world politics) to think he’s saying “racists are good, mmmkay” but it’s much much more Leone and Siegel influenced “we are all morally grey but can raise ourselves higher”.
