Yes. Not quite the same, but before she was real famous I did see Aubrey Plaza texting in the little hallway that smells weird between Bay St Video and Tim Hortons.
The only time I ever felt I needed to (and actually did) carry a bat in Toronto was when I was biking with my children.
I thought I may have flipped them when I sent them academic studies on filtering, but nah. They wanted to be mad and tell me the revolution was coming. 😂
Ah, I have memories of this same academic threatening a human rights complaint against me for calling them a NIMBY online.
I walked by the local football stadium at lunch and hear extraordinarily loud metal on metal alien death machine crunching sounds. Just unfathomably noisy. I go to the gate and peek inside: everything normal, players on the field. I realize they are practicing for crunch time play calling. Huh!

I remember dropping off my bands demo cd with Tom Rosenthal and begging for a show. And we did play, I probably played a gig there every two months while it was open. Ska and punk scenes were hanging on by a thread, but we'd get at least 75 kids there each time, all having a blast.
All the memories, the venue that launched 1000 bands and thousands of lives changed by music. All ages forever.

There's no right or wrong with this IMO, other than it is messy and I think it is okay if an artist wants to get paid. Each artist makes a choice how they sustain themselves to continue their career.
This brings me straight back to the 90s when people were upset when artists had a song in a tv commercial and got paid for it. I bet doing this ensures Japanese Breakfast can keep making art as a career. That's what we want, right?
