The budget was passed because a few democrats provided the votes but less well known is that the budget was fast tracked to prevent even a momentary interruption in Trump’s fascist takeover. That fast track was done by unanimous consent.
And of course, I haven’t even talked about the more well known but biggest slap in the face of them all, approving Trump’s budget wholesale, without even their pathetic condition of adding a phrase about how not following the law is illegal. By doing so they legitimatized every one of his crimes.
To be frank, I think even a lot of very cynical observers of the democrats do not understand just how deep the depths of their complicity were. But unanimous consent is exactly what it sounds like. And they gave it hundreds of times in those 100 days. Now thousands.
I suspect a lot of this story is going to get lost to time if it’s not brought up a bunch. Not many people understand how Congress actually operates. But the complicity and fecklessness is right there in the congressional record. And I hope researchers look at it while they still have access.
