As someone with chronic pain, something that would improve my life a lot is if non-disabled people would stop interpreting signs of pain/discomfort/exertion as "a bad attitude" or "hostility" or personal judgment. It puts pressure on us to mask our pain to avoid being treated worse.
September is apparently pain awareness month, so be aware that I am pretty much always in pain. It doesn’t make my life not worth living, but it does require compassionate management in order to make it work. Stigmatizing opioids makes that much harder.
The pain scale kind of makes me laugh, because things abled friends would call a 9 are a 5 for me. That’s not to say theirs is invalid or I am a badass, but these things do become relative when you live with pain all the time.

Hell, I used to have a tattoo on my fingers and I got it removed in large part because of how incredibly tedious it got to be asked about it *constantly*. I had co-workers who could recite my explanation for the tattoo from memory since they heard it so often. I joked about printing pamphlets.
