You touched a very good point about the hypocrisy of the EU leadership. I don't know if it was shaped by industry pressure or fears of not meeting voters' expectations. .
Unfortunately, the Trump administration talks and actions raise multiple questions about the US course. The only possible outcome for allies is to be cautious and choose alternative suppliers to the US defence industry if possible.
