quietly devastating & deeply effective. Absence, inheritance, & the fragility of memory. The juxtaposition of physical remnants—film fragments, broken jewellery, —with the intangible “extra 0.5%” is particularly striking. The shift from fading presence to your own impermanence is poignant.

Deeply effective in your use of spare, confessional language conveying emotional volatility and restraint. The shift to short, emphatic lines like “my / own / goddamned / record / collection”—mirrors the internal fragmentation & determination. Closing lines philosophically quiet, an unresolved loss.

Coal as a silent chronicler of intimate dawns &epic collapses spanning history. Particularly love the line “a coal pebble—your kin hailed in these parts, men makers family makers wealth makers.” Terse, almost list‑like cadence connects the humble object to generations.

luminous—rich with sensory detail, rhythm. A child's eye view nostalgic, sharply observant. Love the build up through enumeration. The setting is lush! I'm picking up tension, structure, belonging, a desire to rebel? .."blind beak of justice, criminality of a thrown paratha, avoiding bitter rind"

A collision of absurdity & pathos—shocking details like “pads of poop in the freezer” sit uneasily beside subtle emotional revelation, creating a portrait that is grotesque, tragic, & strangely tender. A bizarre journey of mundane everyday items that reveal an invisible struggle.
Rachel (@vignettes.bsky.social) reply parent
"floral acne", "grease-haired, grime-clawed, snot-crusted" children are startlingly alive in a verse that is both lyrical and vernacular, botanical and rich in regional lore. I'm not sure it'll be accepted for the councils 'visit Norfolk' campaign, they might just stick with the beaches. 😁
