Every year in Metro Vancouver, car crashes kill 100 people. We can get to zero by demanding that governments design transportation systems to put safety first. http://linkin.bio/visionzeroyvr

Grateful to support safe and sustainable transportation in our city. I was proud to vote for an upgraded bike lane through portions of Stanley Park, delivering on the ABC election promise of 2022. Excited to see this investment in a healthier, greener future for everyone.

Everyone that rides through here knows that the connection between the Arbutus Greenway and Kent sucks. No wayfinding, steep hills, parking lots, 6-lane arterials... The good news is a motion from @mikeklassen.bsky.social aims to fix this! Along with much needed improvements on Kent. (1/3)

Someone is doing a media interview beside a road where a bus is going by. I've never been to Vancouver, so I'm really excited for this. Vision Zero Vancouver is an all-volunteer organization and we're very grateful that they are putting this together for us. See you there!

This weekend, we met with @emilylowan.bsky.social, a candidate in the BC Greens leadership race. Provincial policy plays a pivotal role in street safety, and it was great to discuss some of the approaches we could take to improve safety for all road users!

Most North American cities that have a “Vision Zero” declaration have not actually done the work. Vision Zero works, but it’s not going to happen if we’re too afraid to inconvenience a single motorist.

Even more solid evidence that speed cameras work! "Howard said he hopes reduced speeds in these zones will encourage more children to walk to school, helping to foster a habit of daily physical activity in their lives, which decreases many health risks in old age."

For over a year, Granville Bridge has been a construction zone with a 30km/h speed limit 24/7. So do drivers actually drive the limit? We took our speed radar gun to find out. The answer will probably.... not surprise you youtube.com/shorts/G31re...

It was so exciting to be at the opening of Vancouver’s Granville Connector yesterday. Public space reallocated to safe, comfortable walking and cycling routes. Thank you to all the advocates that spent years pressuring politicians to make this a reality and the staff who made it happen.

I love the fireworks, but the fact that we allow people to drive through crowds like this after the show is outrageous. We're not even 3 months out from the horrific Lapu Lapu Day tragedy. It's maddening and unacceptable.

The new cycling path through Kits Beach is really great and a huge improvement! Cyclist and pedestrian space is clearly separated and delineated, helping keep everyone safe and enjoying their time. Great job by the city.

The devastation we feel for this child, their family, and the whole community is unspeakable. What's really upsetting is this road in Surrey isn't unique. Half the city looks like this. And that means this is going to happen again and again - until someone decides to take the issue seriously. 💔

Surrey claims to care about Vision Zero. But recently, deaths on Surrey roads are only increasing. In the meantime, they're planning several very expensive road widenings. bsky.app/profile/miha... (5/6)

The speed limit on this residential street is 60km/h. Being hit head-on by a car at that speed, a person's chances of surviving are virtually 0%. It is a guaranteed deadly speed. Reducing the speed to 30km/h would increase those odds to 90%. (4/6)

The nearest crossings on 64th Ave are almost 1km apart. It's a 12 minute walk just to cross the street at a light. This is where families live and work and play. (3/6)
