That was true by Election Day, but during the primary and shortly after he very confidently said a lot of things that turned out very wrong

I see you are going to be as obstinately wrong about what a web page is as you are about everything else

So the way we naturally communicate ideas is by explaining it multiple times, in different words, from different angles, not by constructing and sharing one master definition.
Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social) reply parent
I think about the @maklelan.bsky.social explanation all the time. Our brains don’t learn language by creating definitions for words, they create clusters of related words and ideas. Then we create definitions after the fact to help nudge people towards that, but that’s all a definition does.
Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social)
One bit of advice I feel like I can offer anybody is don’t spend your time and energy arguing over definitions. If these terms help you understand your life that’s great. But if you try to explain something and instead end up arguing which words *should* explain something, you’ve hit a cul de sac.

Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social) reply parent
And now I don’t talk about it much, because yeah, the right has made it into a talking point and it’s too exhausting to get into it while also trying to separate all that nonsense. But it did happen, and I’m still mad at the city and county.
Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, it sucked. It was probably the worst time I had as a parent and the time I was most freaking out about how I didn’t know how to be a good parent in that environment.
Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social) reply parent
Meanwhile my wife and I are both self employed, so we’re trying (and failing) to keep our anxiety and panic from reaching the kid. We’re all cooped up in our 2 bedroom, one of us trying to work while the other tries to keep the kid from tearing the walls down out of pent up energy.
Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social) reply parent
Even after the playgrounds and parks reopened, all the official guidance basically encouraged people to go to work and to spend money, but minimize the “fun” stuff - which happened to include all the things that are important for kids to do.
Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social) reply parent
We don’t have a yard. No play dates. I remember taking my kid to a mostly quiet office park so he could ride his tricycle around the parking lot while I stressed about watching all the driveways for cars entering, and I was furious.
Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social) reply parent
My kid wasn’t even in school yet, he was 2. Los Angeles closed playgrounds for 6 months, long after reopening bars and gyms. Beaches and trails were closed for 8 weeks.

Keep in mind too like half of that fuckin ship was incels. Geordi made a hologram of a real person to kiss, Barclay did that with everyone, Picard doesn’t know what a vagina is, Worf went on to join the Taliban because his girlfriend wore a swimsuit, Riker is the one guy to keep his shit together
Zeroisanumber (@zeroisanumber.bsky.social) reposted reply parent
Off-screen Frakes pushed hard for Riker's love interest in "The Outcast" to be male-coded, but that was a bridge too far for Paramount in the 90s.
Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social)
The number one way you know TNG was written by genuine nerds is their idea of how people would spend their downtime on the enterprise. Everyone’s attending trombone recitals and doing elaborate LARPs in the holodeck.

Waffle 🧇 (@wafflecut.bsky.social) reply parent
Totally. When I was younger I hadn’t been diagnosed and I was a little more worried about being seen as rude or annoying, so it took me too long to start telling bosses to stop telling me things until I had a notebook to write them down
