#171. Damn. A Flower Traveled in My Blood is heartbreaking. I learned a lot.

#170 Many good memoirs this week. Fahrenheit-182 was the most upbeat.

#164 I enjoyed all of the stories in A Blink of the Screen, but I was mostly glad to spend more time with Granny Weatherwax.

#163 I only wish there were more David Grann books to read.

I can’t take trainers and health gurus seriously, when they say things like this. I can’t take most of them seriously anyway.

The few cicadas in the Pittsburgh area seem to be finding their way to my porch and my cat’s mouth.

Max just brought another live cicada into the house. It’s not even a cicada year! Where is he getting these!?

#157 A day with a new @tkingfisher.com is a good day! I loved Hemlock & Silver, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to become a comfort re-read like Nettle & Bone. I adore books with heroines in their 30s.
Rachel (@walkaways.bsky.social) reply parent
#156 My favorite Sarah Gailey yet. This will be a re-read for sure.

For someone who is definitely a top ten hater, I so much prefer to love things. the world is so prodigal of miracles of beauty everywhere. It is a miracle and a mystery but our species is just burning this irreplaceable perfection and no one can stop it.

#155 I absolutely loved To Say Nothing of the Dog. I can’t believe I had never heard of it before.

I just got to do my favorite thing to do on a Monday morning: call and report a missed pick up to the trash company. This time, it’s the recycling and not the trash. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to pick up on our street.

I rescued and released the cicada, but I’m sure he’ll find something else to drag inside later.

It’s always a bad sign when Scout leaps off the couch and starts looking around the house with great interest. Today, Max had brought a live cicada into the house.

Mine too. I’d really like to not have to water tonight.

I just ordered some lovely earrings. I’ve spent the weekend sadly ordering things I won’t be able to get anymore. Anyway, I love this shop, and you should order something while you can.

My home state is incredibly beautiful, and it is also an incredibly hard place to live for many marginalized people. There are a lot of good people living there and also a lot of shitty, racist, bigoted people. It’s important to acknowledge the good and the bad.
