Very nice #emergency alert on Smarty/Three network, Google Pixel 7a phone. Quite classy, in fact, I'm impressed. Am curious if it'll work over WiFi Calling....
...but will eventually get to where I want to go. Brit. Interests include travel, hiking, photography, cooking, singing and enjoying other people's pets.

Experimenting with making unleavened bread. This one was cooked on the stove-top, but the dough was too wet, didn't have salt, and was fried in too much oil. Tasted nice, though, nice thin crust skin, but doughy middle. Will tweak recipe.

The Labour Party machine should have caught this in background checks and nipped this in the bud one way or another. The responsibility for this goes beyond Rayner.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
Damn it. Labour were meant to be the grown-ups in the room, the problem-solvers. There's no one else out there who takes a pragmatic approach to our problems. We're screwed.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
It's astonishing. The way to fight the far right is to fix problems and show that your ideas actually have beneficial outcomes. Not this fluff about flags. Why aren't Labour hammering the fact that getting rid of asylum hotels in the next year was always the plan?

*shrug* Maybe you're over-thinking it? They're just producing something from the same books in a different form - yes, the movies exist, but that fact doesn't block new TV series, audio dramas, plays, etc from the same base material. And actor overlap really isn't a problem - see: superhero movies.

Beautiful, beautiful song. "The dice was loaded from the start"
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
Mate, that's not normal. And it's why we shouldn't give people like you the power to moderate.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
Simple solution: make lists and labels consensual on both sides - i.e. no one can label me or put me on a list without my agreement. Lists and labels can be useful - but are wide open to abuse if they are used for unofficial moderation.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
That's pretty much why the EU switched away from holding the community responsible for their own content on any given platform, to holding the platforms responsible for what happens on it. Trusting the community to "do the right thing" just doesn't work out well.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
And when it comes to beliefs, one person's "reputable" is another's "unconscionable". Moderation simply cannot be done on a community basis. It has to be run by someone on a Bluesky paycheque so at least there's some legal accountability.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
Alignment with EU regulations, specifically prevention of discrimination.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
Unfortunately that assumes that people aren't discriminatory by nature. Everyone has prejudices, these lists and labels just allow them to practice them on a large scale.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
The EU would determine which organisation is responsible for providing that framework, or which organisations are relying on that framework, and ensure that they're not allowing the outsourcing of discrimination on their systems.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
The EU prohibits discrimination based on sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age, and sexual orientation. Any shared block list would have to avoid doing that - and I can't see a way of guaranteeing that. Community block lists and labels should go completely.
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
I suggest doing a deep data analysis on the labels and types of people involved when it comes to any block list subscribed to by, say, 100,000+ people. Don't be surprised if they're blocking by race, politics and/or beliefs. In the EU, expression of these are protected...
Walking In Circles (@walkingcircles.bsky.social) reply parent
Perhaps not giving people the tools to label people by belief and subsequently block them on a large scale would help towards tolerating people with different beliefs. The community-led "moderation system" has to go, and be replaced with something far more accountable.
