I always found it ironic that UGA has the Battle Hymn of the Republic as its fight song (if they still do.) General Sherman would be amused and bemused about that.
I was a reporter and editor back when newspapers were popular and meaningful. I've been in 50 states and nine provinces. I was a boy reporter in Georgia who covered Jimmy Carter when he ran for governor in 1966. I met him again in Canada many years later.

The smile on this guy's face is quite telling. He knows how ridiculous this is.

Anyone who would have to hear an explanation of what's wrong is already a lost cause.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
It happened to the Philippines president for similar offenses. It should happen here.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
It's far from their worst offense, but the use of crude language by these Magats in high office is quite disgusting. Not exactly a reflection of family values and Christian messaging. (And, yes, many Democratic leaders also think they're really cool for peppering social media posts with profanity.)

A football footnote: The hateful nitwits are not only erasing rainbow chalk, they are eliminating anything on streets and sidewalks all over Florida, no matter how innocuous or non-controversial. In Jacksonville, the Jaguars' paw prints near the stadium are now painted over in black squares.

Cold-blooded murder of innocents, however else it might be defined.

Never a good idea ... especially not good with a dumb, narcissistic commander.

But an executive order could change the 2+2 calculation.

In any case, many editors advised that we nix any use of jab.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
P.S. ... I temporarily forgot that this was mainly true during my newspaper days in Canada, whose English borrows heavily from British usage.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
It started out in newspaper headlines, whose writers were eternally in search of short synonyms to fit the available space.

He's busy sending the state's National Guard to Washington. Helping spread mulch, presumably.

Making the move from "seldom watch" to "never watch."
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
That's fine, but all these politicians suddenly unable to express themselves without it look like school kids trying to be cool and all grown up. They might also consider the risk of needlessly offending at least some of the voting population.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
Mr. Martin: When did the party change the rules to require that every social media post must include profanity in any or all of its varieties?
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
Cats exist in your presence. They believe that is more than enough reward for you.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
Any idea what CYO might stand for (in relation to a digital coupon for a grocery store's rewards program)? The store uses all these obscure or meaningless terms to complicate their marketing.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
True, and some of them even care.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
Corrupt and egomaniacal must be added.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
Not a hot war, at least.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
A crime, but no war to even try to justify it.

Clam chowder (Manhattan style) on the British Columbia Ferries. . . . A beef and gravy dish with dill pickles in Austria. (The more inaccessible they are, the more one longs for them.)
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
No one is disputing any of that. (Except Trump and his rabid supporters.)
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
Why is Trump so adamantly blocking release? 1. There have been numerous reports of his name being noted in the files and presumably the most damaging mentions redacted. 2. If Trump is among those who directly abused these girls, isn't it likely this would somehow have been exposed by now?
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
You'd think that CNN would realize no Magats watch CNN, and there's no one else who might care to hear Jennings.
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
If Trump is to be directly implicated, seems it should've happened by now.

By the other way, you mean Fox News?
William Ward-Hyphen (@ward-hyphen.bsky.social) reply parent
That's a "filler," one among a large collection of random facts used to fill out the leftover vacant space after a story's conclusion. (They were common in newspapers in the days before computerized pagination.)

This is most likely included in the article, but it's worth remembering that nearly 250,000 died in the Battle of Okinawa not long before Hiroshima. Of those, some 150,000 were Okinawa civilians.

That is one of the many great casualties of the Trump era. The nation's capital is (or at least has been) a city of great beauty and well-preserved, accessible history. All Americans should see and enjoy it.
