trying to figure out what's the funniest/saddest part of this whole thing. it might be freddie kitchens being there, or mike lombardi's son being there, or probably it's belichick employing his 38 year old and 32 year old sons on his coaching staff while dating a 24 year old

but, just breaking the batting order at the end of the game? that's bad. part of the fun the other day was whether or not the phillies could get schwarber up for a shot at #5. that whole stretch was tense and fun and memorable, even though he didn't hit the home run!
i think the extra inning ghost runner is dumb and the inevitable 12th inning homer-off will be very dumb, but functionally, lots of sports have slightly altered OT rules to end games with expediency.
but, like, specifically ... i'm sorry, but the golden at-bat is functionally the end of the sport, IMO, and i think they're gonna try to do it. but with that rule, it ceases to be a real sport with rules and consequences and competition at that point.
it's good that people like them and are having fun watching them, it's silly they're on ESPN a lot, i'm sorry but there's not much that We Can Learn from their popularity other than, "players having personality is good."
saw the crowd to get into the Bananas game at PNC on saturday and it was pretty staggering to see in person. i think a lot of the Banana Discourse is WAY overwrought, but we're in a real dangerous period here where manfred could conceivably really break the game with dumb rule changes.
but they backgrounded most of that stuff well enough that it's out of the way, so it's just a fun game set in a cool-looking world with interesting mythology and a cool story that has some tough decisions with weighty-feeling consequences
also, yatzli 100% just throws nova bombs.
and, the ENDLESS PARADE of chests and skeletons with crafting materials ... ah, you were supposed to grind those out, MMO-style, but it's not an MMO-lite anymore, so they're just EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD to reduce the grind for you.
(of course, there are no social areas now that it's single player, but probably that was just not high on the priority list of things to change when they made it single-player)
if you are a Destiny Knower, it's actually wild how much destiny DNA there is in the background of this game. like ... OH! that's why the NPCs barely move! they're destiny NPCs, they have to be the same in every instance for every player in the social areas, they CAN'T move.
it's not perfect because of the way it got ported from being a destiny-like to single player, but the combat is way more fun than "modern skyrim combat" should be and the story is so interesting that it makes me want to drop everything from my "play next" list and go play pillars of eternity.
recently went back to avowed to finish it and man, that game really got shorted by The Discourse when it came out. really, really fun game.
Only from those two would I consider that it might make a difference, but those two clearly have more power than the GM. Cutch negotiated his return directly with the owner over the GM's head.

it's mostly still pretty enjoyable, but even the episodes that aren't Doing Bits are mostly riffing extremely (and transparently) hard on modern sci fi that someone on the writing staff really very obviously likes.
it's very funny that they were like, "HOW COULD PARAMOUNT CANCEL US, WE WANT TO MAKE THIS SHOW FOREVER" immediately before launching a season that is like 90% Doing Bits, a real "we are close to out of ideas" red alert if i've ever seen one.

i love looking at the numbers from wakefield's rookie year. it's like he's from another galaxy. he threw a 146 pitch CGSHO with 10 strikeouts and five walks, then threw 144 pitches in his second start, then threw 123 in his third.

he's over 100 pitches today for the first time in two months, so i'd guess that at an absolute minimum they're pushing him back one day. might do even more than that though, as a warning.
The logical thing to do would be to give Bubba a start before Ashcraft since he only threw 40 pitches on Friday. That'd be Wednesday night.
this week is the only week for the rest of the season without an off-day, though, and they have so many potential starters on the team right now that it seems hard to believe they won't add a sixth starter to deal with that.
If they do that, he pitches Friday against the Brewers and not Thursday against the Dodgers.
my guess is that they push him back a day this week without the off-day, so he pitches again on Saturday and not on Friday.

That's primarily my guess: Sanchez has been good enough that he can win it without worrying about Skenes's record, so unless Skenes does something that looks historic, he probably won't.
there's also a real good chance that they start limiting his innings by skipping starts and/or pairing him up with someone to piggyback, which will work against his chances.
a couple good pitchers having real good seasons for good teams with much better W/L records and a "he'll win his own share of these, why give it to him now when it's not even clear he's the best pitcher" sentiment will work against him otherwise, is my guess.
we'll see where the season goes but right now i'd guess skenes has to finish with an ERA below 2.00 and more wins than losses to really have a shot to win the cy young
