echoing what @johngennaro.com said on @section1904.com yesterday, my biggest gripe with this Padres team is what *seems* like a lack of any sort of identity throughout like 90% of the season. if they don’t have SP’ing to get through 5 or 6 innings with a lead, the bullpen strength is voided.

I’ve admittedly not watched every game as much as past years but entering the nightly viewing playoff push so I’ll pay closer attention. the Estrada thing I’m totally fine with Shildty’s choice and I’d like to think Arraez might get moved down (or up to leadoff, or bench) soon.
I’d hope he changes what needs to be changed in the playoffs, until then I think they’re more or less playing fine and hopefully fine enough to win the west
…and the one thing Shildty has done is keep this clubhouse intact, despite losing some key guys over the offseason and dealing with a 75% pouty Fernando and massive roster holes for 80% of this season
is this mostly about Estrada and Arraez? taking Estrada out of that role cause he’s been specifically bad against the dodgers seems like could be a complete shot to his confidence imo, but agreed on Arraez - he’s gotta have some clubhouse influenced pull to remain at 1B and batting 2nd….
