I am proud to report that this soup has almost zero in common with commercial canned tomato soup. I haven't eaten tomato soup in 40 years, because I hated the Campbell's variety so much. This stuff was the bomb, if I do say so myself.

They were a mix of varieties out of my garden. A bunch of red plum tomatoes, Red Siletz, yellow brandywine, Black Krim, some various cherry tomatoes. Any combination will do. You can also used whole canned tomatoes.
After a nice long simmer, I removed the bay leaf, then used an immersion blender to make it smooth (a blender would work too). Last add was about a cup of heavy cream. So yum. I think it gets more interesting when you use a variety of different tomato varieties.
Welp, I kind of winged it. I cooked down about a gallon of tomatoes, then caramelized about one large onion and two big garlic cloves. I added the onions to the cooked tomatoes, plus a bay leaf, red pepper flakes, some fresh thyme, and basil, salt and pepper and a cup of chicken broth. 1/
🌱 My neighbor have me some ripe Madeline Angevin grapes from his vines. I cannot even get close to describing the incredible flavor of these grapes. So.damned.good!

I'm going to swim against the current and tell you what I did. 8 years ago I had fatty liver & high cholesterol numbers. I started eating a low carb, high protein diet with enough fat for satiety (not necessarily high fat, just enough not to be hungry). 8 years later? All better!
Looks like a Romanesco. I have nothing but trouble with them, too, but they sure are pretty. I have had good success with Snow Crown and Skywalker white varieties, and Cheddar (orange).

Have you ever heard of the Lower Salmon River winter squash? You may want to consider it. It produces big squash that are so sweet, and that store until spring. These ones aren't fully mature, they will be a pale orange. The foreground one is about 8 inches diameter. Grow vertical!
