You’re not wrong. I’ve said many times that if I was younger I probably would identify as non-binary. I decided years ago to reject the typical understanding of “man/masculinity” and built my own, personal definition that felt right to me. Because I’m that version of “man,” I identify as cis.
I was talking with some other film nerds recently and admitted that my favorite director is James Cameron, to their horror. Aliens and Terminator 2 are two of my favorite all time movies. T1 and Titanic are also incredibly made and shot. The guy is an artist. Followed by Verhoeven.

I went to Manzanar in the 80s before it was a National Historic Site. There was almost nothing there. It was said the government razed it out of shame, though that is probably apocryphal. We should be ashamed. I have also been to Dachau. Both are incredibly haunting. This is sad and terrifying.

I will admit that I have not read all of those, and the ones I have, I haven’t studied deeply. But I’ve studied those enough to know that his thoughts about them are almost certainly shallow and wrong.

Hear me out: Top Gun I only say this because of a film class TA. He said he loved it as a teaching tool because it is nearly 100% efficient. No line of dialogue is wasted. Every line either moves the plot, develops the character in a relevant way, or refers to another line. It’s almost insidious.
