Signs now read “Defacing Roadway Prohibited” and even “Defacing Sidewalk Prohibited,” meaning mourners can’t even chalk nearby sidewalks.
The Florida Department of Transportation removed the painted crosswalk earlier this month and has since stationed officers and crews at the site to stop the community from re-creating it with chalk.
This is just sad. We’ve posted about this before. Now here is what is going down. The rainbow crosswalk at the Pulse memorial in Orlando (created to honor the 49 lives lost in the 2016 shooting) has now become the target of state enforcement.
