If the choice is between unregulated and unquestioned continuous surveillance by an unaccountable and malicious state, OR abolishing cars - kill the cars. Granted we could always engineer streets safer with data driven methods that prioritize pedestrians over cars⊠but that sounds to sensible.
That and people treat car usage like itâs covered under the 2nd amendment.
I just want to make sure the at home audience sees that this is an ideology of âfrontier-ismâ, isolationism, & anti intellectualism- but not patriotism or the scientific method. Experts in science fields are experts because of data, experimentation, & a large body of evidence. This is dangerous!
We need regulations at all Of those stages - especially from technology that is a result of tax payer investment.
If weâre concerned about dangerous drivers abolish cars or make licensing so burdensome that people cannot drive in populated areas. Peoples dangerous driving doesnât justify surveillance of communities.
You are misunderstanding my point. If the surveillance devices are only capturing traffic violations by cars, with a transparent use and deletion protocol then you have a point. However - since the cameras are capable of capturing more and there is no public access to these cameras - abolish cars.

But we must not ignore all the good weâve done with these programs, the lives saved, the children fed, the businesses started. We just have to make sure that our next steps include tool development with guardrails.
With all of the data breaches, weaponization of tax information we told people wouldnât be used by ice, or harmful Data centers popping up and poisoning the communities they are supposed to employ - there is a rational fear that government engagement will end with bad actors abusing those tools.
As someone from the tumblr generation I morn the loss of the word âproblematicâ - which before being a thought termination device - allowed nuance in discussion. Expansion of state tools & deregulation of protections in order to make progress feels âproblematicâ - but must be wrestled with.
This is a question about whether we feel people have a right to privacy over a right to driving a car. Because the assumption that itâs either police pulling people over (which is also a questionable ânecessityâ) or constant surveillance accessible by malicious state actors raises questions.

Free advice for Senators. Agree and say youâll make it go through with 61 votes, and then go home the day of the vote. You know like how senate republicans keep going back on their promises.

I fear this may have been too cute by half because they can keep the vote open indefinitely. What does this look like: Essentially there are 9 (R) hold outs and 4 noâs - which means those 9 are being harassed, and the other 4 are being pressured to change their vote.
They have already said that âin the rules there is a minimum time the votes can be open (5 minutes), but there is no maximum time.â So they can be there all night.

Yes, there are a couple of provisions I supportâraising the SALT cap and eliminating taxes on tips. Iâve advocated for those. But not in exchange for gutting health care, food assistance, clean energy jobs, and our kidsâ economic future.
And hereâs what may be the most stunning part of all: this bill adds $3 to $4 trillion to the national debt. Thereâs no credible plan to pay for itâunless you count new tariffs, which are just hidden taxes that raise prices on everyday goods like food, clothing, and cars.
It also imposes a new tax penalty on clean energy projects that donât meet supply chain requirements that are virtually impossible under current market conditions. That means fewer jobs, higher electricity bills, and middle-class families priced out of rooftop solar.
Now letâs talk about clean energy. California has over 540,000 clean energy jobs. Many of those are right here in our communityâsolar, storage, electric vehicles, and manufacturing. This bill accelerates the rollback of clean energy tax credits.
Then thereâs food assistance. The bill tightens work requirements and shifts costs to the states, meaning fewer people will qualify for SNAPâespecially those working seasonally, part-time, or recovering from job loss. This hurts working families, plain and simple.
The Senate version deepens cuts to Medicaid. Nearly 1 in 3 Californians rely on Medi-Calâour version of Medicaidâincluding thousands of low-income seniors, veterans, and children with disabilities. This bill adds red tape that could push them off their coverage entirely.
One of the worst takes Iâve heard is that criticizing it is just partisan fear-mongering. Itâs not fear-mongering to talk about whatâs actually in the billâand how it would hurt working families.
