Agreed, as a young man, my buddy and I drove across country and tried to go to as many as we could. Growing up on Long Island, the N.P.'s of Utah and the southwest were life changing. Things are really big out there! Been to all but 4 now in my 64th year, but I'll fill the bucket before I kick it!

I saw someone had posted a Rad-Winged Blackbird a few days ago and found one I saw up on the south shore of Long Island NY. They are plentiful up there and will perch on the flimsiest of reeds, or beach grass. #birds

Probably the least common of the Herons we see here, this Little Blue Heron was on Cayman Brac. From a distance we thought maybe it was a Cuban Sandhill Crane which is rare indeed. #birds

A pair of Blue Winged Teals was down for the winter a few months ago. They breed all across Canada from the Maritimes to the Yukon and like any sensible couple, come down here for the winter. Their wing coverts are blue, you'll have to take my word for it! #birds

This is a nest built by Monk Parakeets in North Paraguay, you can see a few but an amazing number can be inside, as well as a few smaller birds who sneak into small chambers. Sometimes they come out and look for food or just congregate in the trees. #birds

A young Black Crowned Night Heron looks out from it's nest and a mature one perched on a branch at the local pond. I see these guys fairly often on Grand Cayman but much more frequently on the Brac or Little Cayman #birds

Very early in the morning with the ISO turned way up makes for a somewhat grainy image and the Pie Billed Grebes are very skittish so they don't let me get close. Looks almost like a painting some times. Like the Gallinules they're year rounders. #birds
These Common Gallinules are year rounders at the local pond and easy to get good images of. I try to get them in the morning when the reflection makes interesting, at least to me, photos. It looks to me like their beaks are attached with the sticky tack you can hang pictures on walls with! #birds

This endangered Tasmanian Masked owl was injured by hunters but was quickly rehabbed and released by the legend Dr James Harris of Fern Tree. I was fortunate to be down in Tassie to see her. Largest Aussie Masked and largest Tyto Owl in the world. Impressive indeed! #birds

Cayman Parrot in our spiky Silk Floss Tree, he probably was at one time a pet as he says some words. We get a lot of them near the house and one or two will talk and are much more bold in getting close to people so we think they're released pets. He seems healthy which is nice #birds

Red Tailed Hawks are common up on Long Island, you can often see them on the signs and utility poles of the Parkways. This one was in the tree that overlooks our feeders in Amityville, no casualties that day but we have seen them take birds, squirrels, or rabbits in the yard #birds
