Dear god, City Council meeting is still going at 10:45 p.m. So glad I'm not the one covering it tonight.

I suspect my family was poorer than I realized growing up. My parents had middle class-type jobs, but in a poor rural community. I didn't go without, but I do remember the one (1) popular brand-name piece of clothing I had in high school, a gift from an aunt+uncle. I grew up with cinnamon toast.

They've also dropped down to eight-man football since I was in school, so I think they use less of the field.
Adam (@ams-ksu.bsky.social) reply parent
Here is my high school's football field. It's changed a lot since I was in school. The grandstand used to be wooden: smaller, but with a roof. In good weather, a lot of fans would stand on the track, which was made of crushed limestone. The concessions stand was under the bleachers.

Adam (@ams-ksu.bsky.social) reply parent
I suppose there are probably some games between those nine teams that get two of the tenants in a single stadium.
Adam (@ams-ksu.bsky.social) reply parent
On the one hand, at least they didn't pay to build nine of that size and price. On the other hand, how do you manage scheduling nine teams in two stadia? Assuming schedules split evenly between home and away, that's 4.5 home games a week. Friday double-headers? Saturday games?

If I got a $500 million windfall, I would have a house with a fantastic game room for D&D. I don't know if $500 million would be enough to both build a ren faire village/LARP camp/living museum of heritage crafts and do the big charity stuff. I don't have context for that much money.

My last summer of college I worked as a shopping cart wrangler in the Walmart parking lot. The worst I saw was a cart left all by itself with a diaper (used) in it.

Wendy's is exactly what I was thinking of. In a previous job, there was a Wendy's in the next town that was excellent. Hot fresh food, clean, and good service. Until the manager took a different job. It wasn't awful afterward, but there was a distinct difference.

It was a great interview. There were times when it felt like he was kind of losing the thread with his answers, wandering way off the path, but he always steered back to the point of his answers, and the digressions were always to give meaningful context to his answers.
