Schools I think pay lip service to it. Schools now display lists of British values in which we can be proud but were designed by Tory politicians with whom I personally have little in common.
The problem in the US is the same, I imagine, in the UK. Too little is taught in schools about politics, citizenship, or how to discern media bias. Until this is improved - and it can only be improved by government - the majority of people will not be actively engaged in their own democracies.
