I'm pretty sure that Trump and Miller have no idea the percentage of soldiers, sailors, and airmen who are in support roles. It's probably a good thing they didn't let Big Balls and the other Muskovites into the Pentagon personnel systems or they'd have fired everyone who wasn't in a combat MOS.
I think the important point is that these soldiers are doing work that used to be done by all those Park Service personnel who got purged by Big Balls and co. That's the real issue here. And the road guard vests are in the regs. They brought them with them when they deployed.
So when I see the pictures of them doing police call in some park or on the Mall, I'm pretty happy about it.
They aren't giving support units live ammo and sending them out to patrol the deadly corridor known as the National Mall. Nobody in the chain of command wants to lose their career when a clerk-typist shoots someone on 8th St NE. So you send them to do what they do best: police call.
The other thing that people aren't nderstanding is that every member of the military has an MOS, job for which they are trained. Even if they are only mobilizing infantry units, they are still sending supply clerks, cooks, truck drivers and mechanics, etc. You have to give them something to do.
Even going to the range to shoot involves police call. Police your brass, soldier. Picking up after yourself and others is the job.
If you've got time to sit on your ruck, you've got time for police call.

For those who don't know, police call is the military term for picking up garbage.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was a message being sent to the chain of command. This is such a waste of time that I put them on police call.
Well, police call is the classic busywork the First Sergeant assigns to a Company with nothing to do.

Totally agree. Speaking only for myself, four years in the infantry followed by four years loading trucks and sorting packages at UPS did more to turn me into a socialist than anything I've done in my subsequent career in academia.

Let's not even get into the fact that there aren't anywhere close to 34 million of those stoop labor jobs. None of it is supposed to make sense as far as I can see.
There aren't 34 million hired ag workers to deport anyway. None of it makes even superficial sense.
If there were a Word Cup for corruption, FIFA would be the odds on favorite every time.
And that's not even getting into the fact that a lot of the hired ag work that H2-A and undocumented workers do is seasonal. Did anyone ask her about this? It's not a difficult question to ask. Maybe the NYT could run a story on that instead of Mamdani's college applications.
But let's imagine for a second that she's right and there are 34 million freeloaders out there. According to the USDA, hired farm labor accounts for less than 1% of US employment. Deport every hired ag worker and end the H2-A Visa program, and you still aren't creating 34 million job openings.
Someone should ask her whether she really believes that approximately 15% of working age adults in the US are able-bodied, completely unemployed, and just living their best lives on disability payouts instead of working in agriculture? That's completely insane.

Who the fuck shoots firefighters? Firefighters are unequivocally the good guys. My grandfather was a firefighter in the western US who was often the lead responder at something like this. He was a problematic guy in some respects, but his was a noble profession.
