Putin expected Ukraine to fall within weeks of the invasion. Now he's stuck in an attritional war he can't back out off. He he agrees to leave Ukraine he'll be seen as weak. His only 'peace deal' he'll accept is to keep the parts he invaded which Ukraine will never accept.
