Didn’t he just lose a case in court on this in LA I think? How can he be still doing it. And how gullible is the Republican congress that they think he won’t do whatever he wants in any state after he gets away with this in Democratic ones.

We don’t have a large holding of publicly owned housing in Australia, and allowing the alternative to become unaffordable is inhumane. btw, I am married to a child of immigrants and my daughter is married to an immigrant. I think I am evidently not exclusionary, only hoping that I am sensible.
aussiedale.bsky.social (@aussiedale.bsky.social) reply parent
I am not anti immigrant to want to discuss an appropriate level of immigration to Australia, neither does it make me communist to want to discuss limits on housing investment tax breaks. Our kids should have opportunity based on effort and balanced policy, not quickest on the draw or family wealth.
aussiedale.bsky.social (@aussiedale.bsky.social) reply parent
In regard to Australian housing there are a number of factors, negative gearing and CGT discounts on unlimited numbers of properties, developers holding property undeveloped, great increase in flipping, and yes, Immigration well above average levels also impact.
aussiedale.bsky.social (@aussiedale.bsky.social)
I’m seeing annoying comments for and against immigration, mostly from extreme ends of the spectrum, after the marches on the weekend. I think there is no excuse for neonazism or fascism, NONE. However, taking extreme positions in politics and painting opponents as extreme is not helpful.
aussiedale.bsky.social (@aussiedale.bsky.social) reply parent
The trouble is that the US treats its presidents with great respect, based on mostly honourable past presidents earning it, and trump has leveraged that and the accompanying reluctance to prosecute, to run roughshod over norms and anyone honourable enough to actually have a line they won’t cross.

Won’t be long before the ‘president’ says LA is like Gaza, needs to be evacuated so he can build more resorts. Actually maybe the government should take a stake in mar a swampo, redevelop it, and return a dividend to government in perpetuity.
aussiedale.bsky.social (@aussiedale.bsky.social) reply parent
Or ‘being there’.
aussiedale.bsky.social (@aussiedale.bsky.social) reply parent
Thinking about it; no need for constant monitoring of election rolls, no need to register for a party, likely more general average political outcomes, and if you ended up in this current position you would know everyone voted for it. Harder for a psycho to fool some of the people some of the time?
aussiedale.bsky.social (@aussiedale.bsky.social) reply parent
Definition of dichotomy? US insistence on ‘freedoms’ including whether to vote or not, is perhaps why the US is in danger of losing all the other freedoms you enjoy. Compulsory voting is a very small price to ensure those.

Although not formally or otherwise educated in this field, I have thought similarly, however I wondered if we would have a French Revolution type of turnover. The US is showing the modern slow burn version of that. In words from back then, the peasants just want to overthrow the rich, ruling class.

I feel like challenging his supporters, if they believe his rubbish about the US being a basket case, they should try actual normal day to day life in one of the places he is trying to emulate. China, North Korea, Russia, Hungary. For a start they will lose their right to guns and critical speech.
