Third, we deserve to know which factors are used in the decision making. If a cop is going to show up at my door because I was the victim of a crime in the past, I deserve to know. These policies used to be publicly available through laws and regulations, and hiding behind AI is unacceptable. 6/x
Second, we need to know what systems are able to observe us and what data they have access to. This information should be made available before the implementation decision, but should also be available in a database after the fact. Whatever they have access to will be used in future models. 5/x
First, a check on the system. Any implementation of AI systems should be put up to a popular vote in the impacted jurisdiction, it's not something that politicians can choose on our behalf. We are the ones whose data gets subsumed into the algorithmic machine, we get to make the choice. 4/x
