YMMV I could never get into comic books, they are like the fancy appetizer version of books, look great and can even be quite tasty but you’d need a dozen or two to be satisfied.
He's not wrong about Clarke though ;D My (not much of a reader) youngest loved Tales from the White Hart. and I don't see Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy going away anytime soon, although you can argue that's comedy/fantasy. I do think there are books everyone *should* read. Mostly textbooks.

New and old can both be awesome. While some books stand up better than others the fact that they are a snapshot of that periods perspective is also interesting. Also, Moon is a Harsh Mistress, the Foundation series, Brin's Uplift are all fantastic, even if they are a bit straight white male.

Do you grow sweet potatoes? Best calories/effort+space I have found. I once lived off what I grew/raised but that was 1/2 acre under cultivation, a LOT of fking eggs and honey for sweets (to be honest I got tired of it and cheated but the calories and nutrition was there)
