Kick off your morning with two powerful minutes from Samuel Garcia — an everyday American who drove three hours just to confront the Texas legislature with the truth. Let’s all be Samuel Garcia. Speak up. Be bold. Make them hear us. This man is the definition of a great American.

If a person is injured by a vaccine, they can apply for compensation through this program, and the bar for compensation is fairly low. VICP exists because of numerous superfluous lawsuits that had been filed against pharma companies, leading many to start to pull out of the market. 2/5
Elizabeth Jacobs, PhD (@elizabethjacobs.bsky.social) reposted reply parent
Because vaccine safety and availability is critical to the health and wellbeing of the people of the U.S., the government was unwilling to have them manufactured elsewhere. It's not nefarious, it's not a conspiracy, it's a public health strategy that has proven to be the right one. 3/5
Elizabeth Jacobs, PhD (@elizabethjacobs.bsky.social) reposted reply parent
VICP is funded by an excise tax from the sale of every vaccine that a pharmaceutical company sells. The tax is about 75 cents per vaccine, though combination vaccines, for example MMR, are taxed x 3 because there actually three vaccines in there (measles, mumps, rubella). 4/5
Elizabeth Jacobs, PhD (@elizabethjacobs.bsky.social) reposted reply parent
In short, if RFK Jr. has always been angry that he can’t make money by suing vaccine companies. It has nothing to do with anyone’s health. If he ends this program, vaccine manufacturers will stop making vaccines in the U.S., and we will lose herd immunity quite quickly thereafter.
Elizabeth Jacobs, PhD (@elizabethjacobs.bsky.social) reposted
RFK Jr. is going to end the vaccine program in the United States in order to make money for himself by suing companies that make them. He wants to end the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), which means that vaccine manufacturers will stop making vaccines in the U.S. 1/5
Elizabeth Jacobs, PhD (@elizabethjacobs.bsky.social) reposted
If RFK Jr. ends the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), he will make millions in client fees while his clients lose their lawsuits. The bar for proving a vaccine injury in court is higher than via VICP. But more importantly, millions of children will become disabled and die.
Elizabeth Jacobs, PhD (@elizabethjacobs.bsky.social) reposted reply parent
There is no greater five alarm fire than this. I don’t know how to break through to Republicans about the impact of ending VICP, but I won’t stop posting about it, and neither should you. Call your elected reps. Write letters. This is a living nightmare.

What's to stop them from "accidentally" killing peaceful protesters caught in the crossfire? Or claiming there was "violence" that warranted a lethal response? This seems like a pretty effective deterrent against future protests, particularly if they use June 14th to set an example.
