I picked it up during Covid when it was the first non-baseball sport that really came back and have been in on it ever since. Even started playing because it's always a great idea to pick up the first full-contact sport of your life in your mid-thirties.
Hell yeah - I played in it last year, but not going to make it this year.
I do it to give myself the illusion of saving money. Did I just spend $500 on a tv? Yes, but I could've spend $6,500 so this was a totally reasonable purchase

It's a combination of two things 1. switching from quarters to semesters 25 years ago, so you're now trying to finish 1/2 the calendar and exams before Christmas holiday 2. Trying to get as much classroom time as possible before spring standardized tests in order to increase test scores
Let kids play sports with their friends. It shouldn't be more complicate than that.

I looked at getting tickets for that game (and I'm super glad I didn't go too far down that path) but it was a gimmick to sell a million tickets at $200+ a pop. It takes some real effort to get to anything more nefarious than that.
