I have a couple of international trips coming up. Curious about the reception. Personally, I think itās less about having a spine and more about shameless greed. Our current crop of politicians, sadly on both sides, are addicted to big money and serve special interests and not the people

The leaves are just starting to change and it's finally cooling off. A few reds so far, but the yellow aspen leaves are still a few weeks off. We have barely had any rain this summer, so the fall color change might be a little lackluster year. Nothing like a walk in a sea of yellow aspens.

I do a lot of DEI work. Fortunately, it is funded by the American Cancer Society or a private foundation. Our R25 is still viable, but in a āwhite washedā form. Our institution has stepped up with bridge funding in some cases, and some programs have had good luck closing gaps with philanthropy

I may be a bit of a Pollyanna, but for my mental health, I need believe we can push through this acute funding crisis. It wonāt be painless. But if paylines stay low in the long term, I struggle to see any silver lining.

I look forward to reading them both. All of the acute funding changes are brutal, but many are likely survivable in the short term with careful planning and institutional support. I worry about the chronically low paylines at less than 10%. I have no idea how the scientific enterprise survives that.
