Newsom has some baggage and weaknesses. I can appreciate what he's doing now without saying he's the best candidate for an election a few years from now. I'd vote for him if he's the nominee vs Vance but I have doubts about his viability in a general.
I think what its really about is campaigning against, not just voting. The way centrist Dems are campaigning against Mamdani and many leftists campaigned against Harris well after it was "fascism vs not fascism".

I agree but purity tests get applied both ways. There is a lot of scaremongering purity tests applied to progressives by centrists just as there are purity tests by leftists. And don't say centrists still vote Dem, look at the shift of white women to Trump or the refusal of D leaders to back Zohran.

The Dems standard OP on this has been "we'll give you a one time tax credit" which isn't enough and doesn't account for all the time and hassle involved and the difficulty of raising the funds up front and just doesn't have the same power as "we'll make it easier and less expensive".

I agree the language could be stronger but for the mildly informed this article raises far more red flags than one just pointing out that there's a racist community. Rolling back desegregation is a goal of at least some portion of MAGA intellectuals and this is part of the strategy for that.
It was the first article I've seen about the laws that make this illegal and the community's belief that a Trump era judiciary and DOJ would uphold it against a challenge. Seen lots of articles that say "OMG, racists" but just this one that outlines their roadmap to legalize segregation.

It's a huge national chain that's been around for decades, kind of like a "Hokey Country Store" themed Denny's. Often found at exits on the edges of town to get people who are travelling as well as people in outer suburbs.

The crackers were more like settlers, not typically slave owners. In fact I think the classic cracker period was after the war. Tbf, a lot of them were coming from former slave states but they weren't people with a bunch of money.
The wild thing is that they got sued for discriminatory practices by the DOJ about 20 years ago and made these changes to correct themselves and do better. Specifically undoing a company's corrective to actual discrimination must be part of the point here.
