Kennedy must be removed from office. He has already caused a catastrophe at HHS and the CDC. I strongly suspect that he is about to use data manipulated by unscrupulous and unqualified individuals to attempt to falsely show that vaccines are in some way a net harm. He simply must be stopped.

On our side of the street, 3 of the 8 houses in our section have pools. Our backyards are small, so they take up the entire yard. I can't imagine what the upkeep and cost (and insurance) are for having a pool that you can only use for 4-5 months each year.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
I wouldn't even leave water in a backyard wading pool when my kids were small. Now I see many people putting in inground pools that take up their entire back yard with no fencing around the pool itself and direct access to the house. It only takes a moment of distraction for disaster to happen.

I replied that it is protected as free speech in the US, and that burning a flag is the official way to retire it. I was attacked online for that response - in 2015!
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
This very issue caused me to leave FB in 2015. An older relative shared a meme of someone burning a flag that said it should be a felony. The photo was not even from the US.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
So very true. And they don't use lights if displayed at night. They wear flags as clothing, too. This flag burning=felony has been part of the RW mantra for a while.

Some Monday morning thoughts from a Wall Street political analyst on Bloomberg News this morning: Democrats are likely to pick up 5 to 25 seats in the House and take back control. They have an outside chance of taking control of the Senate as well, with possible pick ups in Ohio, NC and Maine. 1/

Definitely a strange relevance. To Christian evangelists, it means the moment they decided they were "saved" by Jesus. Declaring it makes it so. Go forth and sin no more, etc.

Bed, Bath & Beyond did close, selling its "intellectual property" and name to Overstock for the customer data. I kept getting e-mails from Overstock/Bed Bath Beyond. It took a lot of effort to make it stop! The same thing happened to JoAnn's, which sold its info to others including Michaels.

Same here! I stopped going to that doctor after 15+ years because I was charged for TWO office visits in order to get an annual prescription updated at the same time. They reported it to my insurance as TWO "extended" office visits.

Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
After going through it with my in-laws, I begged my dad not to put me through it again. He thought he would live to 100. He stopped taking his meds. Both of them needed care. I made sure all their bills were auto pay, but my brother stole so much money that the payments would not clear.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
I got him out of the nursing home as soon as I could. I reported the assisted living facility that sent him out (and didn't refund the balance that was paid in full.) I was told that there are few laws in place for assisted living, and that nothing could be done.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
I was reported to the state by the hospital social services because I would not accept their recommended placement. The place he was sent to was awful. They stole all of his clothes and even his coat. They didn't even provide a blanket or pillow. He was beaten up by another resident.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
I think the current system is horrible, and with what the GOP has in store in will be worse. When my dad was removed from assisted living (while I was out of town ), the hospital wanted to send him to a nursing home. Most places would not accept a guardianship. Some of the places were horrific.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
I went through it with both sets of parents. I thought I learned a lot, but was still taken aback. The social worker told me I needed to be my father's guardian, but then the moment it was granted, I was told I had to assure his safety or be criminally negligent. I lived across the state!
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
I left for four days to take two of my kids on vacation. I told the facility I would be gone, and I made sure my parents had everything they needed. The place literally sent my dad to the ER for "behavior" the morning I left. I got off the plane to voicemails from the hospital. They were horrendous.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
And most of these facilities are just out for money, honesty. They will send your parent to a hospital for almost anything, but still expect you to continue to pay their fees while your parent is in the hospital.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
And I could not spend $100 for him without a court order, which cost about $300 after court and attorney fees. It was a racket. I ended up fronting so much money. My sister now claims I "stole" money from her. I did not come out ahead in any way. No good deed... Thanks for your response.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
One facility said they would accept the guardianship, but then insisted I had to personally sign the paperwork when I arrived with him. My attorney gave me specific wording to use when signing anything as guardian for my father. This financial abuse is bound to get far worse under the GOP.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
I went through a similar circumstance with my mother. They tell adult children that you need to "sign some paperwork." In the fine print, it makes you personally responsible for the bill. I even had one place send me a bill afterwards in my name only, even after I didn't sign anything.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
I served as my father's legal guardian due to his dementia and my brother actively emptying out his bank account. As legal guardian, almost every facility tried to trick me into signing personal financial responsibility for him. I refused and most would not accept him.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent

There are so few restaurant meals now that I think are worthwhile. The cost doesn't match the quality, service, taste or satisfaction. I don't mind cooking most of the time.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
When I was growing up, we got to eat out twice a month on the day my dad was paid. We would go to a cafeteria or get burgers at Bonanza. Then my dad would drop me off with my mom to buy groceries for the next two weeks.

Unfortunately, that isn't always the case. I know someone who had a melanoma removed from her face, and she still took no precautions. She thought I was weird for doing so.
Bri (@brik.bsky.social) reply parent
I grew up in the age of iodine-laced baby oil and Hawaiian Tropic SPF 4 "tanning" oil. No sunscreen. We didn't have access to a pool, but we did spend a lot of time outdoors every summer. After having two early stage melanomas removed, I feel quite differently about that childhood sun exposure.
