Yes, I did debating at school and it was interesting and enlightening but the whole point was you could argue (almost) any position. It wasn’t about being right, it was about sharpening skills. I genuinely felt strange about not being able to see the horizon in the years I lived in Melbourne. So it’s not the specificity of place maybe, it’s the experience of expecting *some* relationship with the natural world…. Which some cities do have.

It seems to me that the predominantly “progressive” mode of Hollywood storytelling has in fact helped to obscure the horrors of late stage capitalism and American imperialism. Even if the artists themselves, individually, sought to do the opposite. Because of how it is all set up. Am I wrong?!

Whether intentionally or not I don’t know… but it’s about how collective punishment is indefensible. That’s literally what those flashy, fun musicals for kids are about. How you can’t punish the children of villains and they must have equal opportunity. And it works! It’s good. And artists did that.

I’ve watched a lot of Disney content recently, in fact, having a 5-year-old who is enraptured… and I could write an entire thesis on the ways in THE DESCENDANTS trilogy is humanist, anti-fascist storytelling. There’s even a solid allegory for Israel’s treatment of Palestinians at the heart of it.

I can’t say it enough times - Everything hinges on trans rights. If you need self-interest: Cis ladies, do you like yoga pants and voting and guys in eyeliner? Cis dudes, do you like glam rock, metal, and Katharine Hepburn? Trans rights are our rights. Trans rights are your rights.

Different reasons probably but… same.

"We should start with Gaza. There is a path to stopping the genocide: ...any co-operation that facilitates military action must end; humanitarian aid needs to urgently reach the trapped & starving; and medical care must be available for the injured, the malnourished, and expectant and new mothers."

Oh nice! Wish I could... it's too long since I've been to a horror fest.

Agreed. It’s just going to make everything worse. It’s not community-minded, it’s opportunistic and destructive.

I recently got through reading a chilling number of scripts for this year’s Dark Nights screenplay comp. There are so many wild creative minds out there! If you’re a Sydney-based horror fan, head along in early October and support some weirdos. Program is here: www.darknightsfilmfest.com/program

Yes, I was just thinking that because the team memberships were cheap people might be imagining an altruistic purpose behind the stadium. But that was just a strategy and it will be a commercial concern. We will be bankrupting the state and most Tasmanians will get nothing.

I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t “exiting” that was the problem.

You need to love yourself today. Life is too short to spend time disliking yourself. You are this amazing being made of stardust and dreams given shape. You need to love yourself today and every day. Don't listen to the internal critic. You are worthy of love. ♥️ Card from The Movie Tarot. #tarot

The Lovers card from The Movie Tarot shows Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal from Brokeback Mountain.

I rarely share organizations in Gaza because it’s too hard to verify that they are doing the work they say they are but I know multiple people who were able to evacuate through the people working on this fund who are funding trips out of Gaza City (it’s $2100 a trip for 16 people).

If you happen to be canceling streaming services for whatever reason, maybe throw a few bucks to a creative's Patreon or Ko-fi. Many have monthly tiers starting as low as $1, which may not sound like much, but if they get enough sign-ups, it could be life-changing money for those living on the edge.

Yes, unfortunately MAGA and co think they are an exception. Elon Musk would be happy to persecute autistic people even if he’s autistic himself. They don’t care if it’s illogical.

It’s such a deeply sad story. I’m so sorry that this happened to you in my city, Deepinderjeet. I don’t know how this could have been prevented but I know we are not doing enough to turn kids away from anti-social behaviour. We need alternatives, not just punishments when it’s too late. #politas
