I would say the primary issues under discussion around them aren't about whether they're useful for specific tasks, but the ethics of their development and use in the full context of the culture and economy. They're clearly time savers for specific things.

I think the field has a wonderful diversity to it that greatly exceeds any prior era. There is good-to-great SF coming out of many cultural backgrounds and from modern perspectives in a way that feels like the flowering of what started with the New Wave. That's the defining characteristic of now.

This is the kind of thing the Void guy I posted about doesn't mind causing. Note that his creation is even easier to access than these GPTs. This technology is unsafe, and when it causes harm its creators should be liable for both civil and criminal penalties, especially after admitting the danger.
The ideas seem to emerge from the capabilities or affordances of the technologies when taken outside their conventional contexts. Rather than searching for the method to express a given idea, you start with the method and see what pops out. That's a 100% valid modern art approach
