With the _current_ commercially available AI tools, this team could easily be reduced to 4 engineers, maybe fewer. And thatâs not taking into account where we will be 12 months from now.
A few years ago I was on a software development team working on a mobile app. The team had about 8 engineers, a product manager, and a designer. The annual burn rate was well over a million dollars a year for the company.
Itâs clear to me that you guys have not been using these tools daily over the last year. The pace of change is incredible. Knowledge work is fundamentally changed.

Using it as autocomplete is only scratching the surface. Try writing a function starting with a detailed comment. Use highlighting to perform refactoring and code review. Use copilot chat to strategize how to approach a problem.
