The best advice for dealing with the Trump administration is the same as for dealing with a mountain lion. Make noise. Look it in the eyes. Make yourself appear larger. Show the mountain lion that you are formidable. Do not cower, run, or turn around. And if you are attacked, fight back.

I’m concerned that people won’t appreciate how big a line is being crossed here. Texas is suspending basic Constitutional freedoms for opposition lawmakers. This isn’t dipping your toe in the authoritarian waters, it’s diving head first into the deep end. This is big league authoritarianism.

While our real founding wasn't anything like what I was brought up to believe, I do think it's appropriate for those of us in this place, with this history, to draw on documents like the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights to advocate for more justice in a culturally resonant way.
Democratic politicians need people on their staff wargaming the worst possible scenarios and telling their bosses how they should respond in those circumstances. Maybe they won't happen, maybe the odds of them happening are low but plans NEED to be in place regardless.

Conservatives, especially those deep in the movement, are abusers. They use the exact same tactics Their insecurity tells them they're victims, and that a boundary is an attack They have to fix that in themselves, which won't happen until their power is removed
Anything they say has to be evaluated as an attempt to gain power, and nothing more. They deserve no benefit of the doubt. If they can't make you fight for them, they will use shame to make you stand aside. If you don't stand aside, they will send the people they've convinced to fight for them.

Simply by numbers, the normal (and by conservative logic "true") American life would be that of the city. Our economic, artistic, & cultural cores are urban, and our Revolution started in Boston. I think urban liberals & leftists have a much better claim to "true" Americana than rural conservatives

the problem with letting democrats backslide their support of trans rights whether it be trans in sports or using bathrooms is we’ve seen “compromise” in the UK labor party. they gave into “reasonable” TERF demands and it destroyed the labor party and all rights for trans people

I think about this so much with trans kids because when you play sports as a kid you wear the name of your school across your chest and everyone you know is cheering you on--and seeing you as a part of their community--and it's just been decided that no trans kid ever deserves that

The thing that stands out here is so many Dems run campaigns terrified of (and thus buying into) the Fox News framing. Mamdani is rightly mocking that framing as ridiculous and it resonates. He's not running scared. He's running proud of who he is and what he stands for.
If you were forced to bet on which university courses of study still will be relevant in 50 years, languages, literature, history, philosophy, and arts are all pretty good wagers. They have an excellent track record over the past thousand years or so.

It's funny, because it's literally just basic etiquette to switch names and pronouns when someone asks. It's simple to try, most folks understand when you make a mistake, and yet somehow people act like they're being asked to grab the moon from the sky

The Supreme Court said it was unlawful for the Biden administration to forgive student loans because it lacked congressional authority but has no problem with the Trump administration gutting the entire Department of Education without congressional approval. This is a lawless court.

I saw so many people talking about how Mamdani and Lander were clearly running because they love their city and want to make life better there, while Cuomo seems to hate and fear it, and that feels like the key piece of this campaign that could be replicable by progressives everywhere
