Fri night I stood next to a small creek on the beach in Resurrection Bay and admired the stars as pink salmon flopped around. If there were bears nearby they left me alone. So many satellites!
By east I actually meant west. 🤪

I didn’t see them today but there was a report of at least 25 observed today in Turnagain Arm.
Belugas after sunset.
Belugas! The one has some interesting black scrapes near its head and on its side. Anyone recognize this one? This video was shot at 120fps and slowed down to 1/3rd normal speed.
Beluga whale after sunset last night. There were at least 8 belugas in the pod I saw last evening and they were very active in the same location for over an hour, by far the most active I've ever seen. The location for those near Anchorage www.google.com/maps/@61.026...

This is what storm chasing in Alaska from space looks like. 🤩 Parts of Anchorage are going to get wet.
I want to give this moose calf one of those clip on dragon fly bug repellants to see if it makes difference with how many are flying around it.

The 2nd wave peak is in and it is a little smaller than the first after accounting for tide. It's good to see it is not worse than the first!
The first full amplitude wave is in at about 1.8 feet. So far the forecast for Adak of 1.3- 2.5 ft rise is holding.
NTWC official prediction is 1.2- 2.2 ft for Adak. This is just the first wave. Will see if later waves are bigger.
The first wave is a little over 1 foot, which took about 18 min.

The Adak water level measurement began detecting the tsunami starting about 6pm. This plot shows through 618pm with about a 1 foot rise so far.

It’s snowing up high.
1 more night closer to aurora season and me yelling at clouds. This was Sept 2024, an aurora with fall colored trees.
I took this photo today several years ago. There’s a huge difference in size of the calf.
I'm naturally drawn to the Arm. It's always changing and there's lots of places to explore. This time I drove there from when I got off work. The trails around Anchorage get so busy in summer too, which is another reason I like the Arm.
Sunshine helped. Temperatures were in the low 60s.
The Turnagain Arm wind machine is working today.

Aurora season is coming soon. Then begins my war against non precipitating clouds. I can't wait!
Sunset from this past weekend. A measurement of the sun's track suggests the sun set around a 15 degree angle. It took about an hour for the sun to lower from 5 degrees above the horizon to sunset. For comparison, in Honolulu, the sun traveled about 15 degrees in the last hour before sunset.
The mountains turned purple as the sun got near the horizon last evening while the clouds rolled around. This was 1048-1100pm.
It would be melting.

I had another opportunity to take photos of the outside from the inside.
For the moon curious, the closest the moon got to full while it was above the horizon here was very early this am. It was almost 1 degree above the horizon, rising at 1225am and setting at 307am. Too bad it was cloudy, but that means more bore tides tomorrow and this weekend.
In the far far left side just above the water there is another. 😀
Look above the boat and slightly to the right. There's a smaller black bird standing out in front of the snowfield. One more bird to count!

The only thing special it is fish tank water which has a PH lower than my tap water. The usual fertilizer is added to the fish water.
No. I've never sheltered it and treated with anything other than regular house air. It's a happy little tree. It really began to take off in the last 4-5 months. Good luck with the pests!
I think this is a motivated tree. The flower may drop without producing fruit since it might not be old enough. Will see!
I’m so excited! My citrus tree that I started growing from seed in 2022 has its first flower!! I’ve been growing it hydroponically since it was born. I started it from a Costco bought mandarin that had some seeds inside.

Hump Day Bore Tide today! Despite be advertised as "big", this one was smaller than usual and slow. Pretty scene none the less!
I get lots of eye contact from moose. Then I wave at them.

For the bore tide fans, the tidal swing is down into the -3s feet this week, peaking Wed/Thu for afternoon/evening bore tide.
Nice. I wish we had lightning bugs here. I was denied lightning bugs growing up except for vacations.
