Water is a big draw for me.
Capturing Alaskan scenes, happenings, and experiences for all to see. Also, sharing the life of my garbage can, Derby (they/them). I don’t see typos. Opinions are my own. Live, work, and play on Dena'ina Lands.

Drains into a different location on the Kenai Peninsula.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Just starting.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
A polarizing filter works wonders for that problem or if you have polarized sunglasses you can shoot through them with your phone.

Sockeye salmon.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Salmon finishing the circle of life.

About 11 miles.

That’s astronomical summer. Meteorological summer is over.

Oh wow! I see it! Great eyes.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
Fri night I stood next to a small creek on the beach in Resurrection Bay and admired the stars as pink salmon flopped around. If there were bears nearby they left me alone. So many satellites!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
By east I actually meant west. 🤪
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
A little east of Cooper Landing.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
I didn’t see them today but there was a report of at least 25 observed today in Turnagain Arm.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
Belugas! The one has some interesting black scrapes near its head and on its side. Anyone recognize this one? This video was shot at 120fps and slowed down to 1/3rd normal speed.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
Beluga whale after sunset last night. There were at least 8 belugas in the pod I saw last evening and they were very active in the same location for over an hour, by far the most active I've ever seen. The location for those near Anchorage www.google.com/maps/@61.026...
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
There’s more coming
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
This is what storm chasing in Alaska from space looks like. 🤩 Parts of Anchorage are going to get wet.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
I want to give this moose calf one of those clip on dragon fly bug repellants to see if it makes difference with how many are flying around it.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
Is this you playing in the snow/ice @climatologist49.bsky.social ?

The 2nd wave peak is in and it is a little smaller than the first after accounting for tide. It's good to see it is not worse than the first!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
The first full amplitude wave is in at about 1.8 feet. So far the forecast for Adak of 1.3- 2.5 ft rise is holding.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
NTWC official prediction is 1.2- 2.2 ft for Adak. This is just the first wave. Will see if later waves are bigger.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
The first wave is a little over 1 foot, which took about 18 min.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Latest data found at tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/waterlevels....
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
The Adak water level measurement began detecting the tsunami starting about 6pm. This plot shows through 618pm with about a 1 foot rise so far.

I saw a cloud and I had to point my big lens at it. It was a matter of life or death. Fortunately, I am alive to tell the story of the cloud that did cloud things and show you all the cloud things.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Wow. How did I get that spelling. lol.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m waiting for this one to start ruingn in its sleep.

3 dandelion control specialist not doing any dandelion control. Sad!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Thank you.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
My shower faucet suddenly began leaking behind the wall and flooded my closet. The garbage can, Derby, is going to be a full bin for a while. Time for a shower remodel! I’m taking recommendations for hiring help, Anchorage!

1 more night closer to aurora season and me yelling at clouds. This was Sept 2024, an aurora with fall colored trees.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
I took this photo today several years ago. There’s a huge difference in size of the calf.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm naturally drawn to the Arm. It's always changing and there's lots of places to explore. This time I drove there from when I got off work. The trails around Anchorage get so busy in summer too, which is another reason I like the Arm.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Sunshine helped. Temperatures were in the low 60s.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
The Turnagain Arm wind machine is working today.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
All good thanks. The event was pretty far away.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
Aurora season is coming soon. Then begins my war against non precipitating clouds. I can't wait!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
Sunset from this past weekend. A measurement of the sun's track suggests the sun set around a 15 degree angle. It took about an hour for the sun to lower from 5 degrees above the horizon to sunset. For comparison, in Honolulu, the sun traveled about 15 degrees in the last hour before sunset.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
The mountains turned purple as the sun got near the horizon last evening while the clouds rolled around. This was 1048-1100pm.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
It would be melting.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Happy Bonus Birthday!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
About 1500 foot higher gave me about an extra 10 min then. 😀
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
I bet if you called them over they would have come.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
I don’t think their purpose is to overwhelm. Their purpose is to make money. They learned what makes money and humans feed the cycle.

I had another opportunity to take photos of the outside from the inside.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
For the moon curious, the closest the moon got to full while it was above the horizon here was very early this am. It was almost 1 degree above the horizon, rising at 1225am and setting at 307am. Too bad it was cloudy, but that means more bore tides tomorrow and this weekend.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
In the far far left side just above the water there is another. 😀
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Look above the boat and slightly to the right. There's a smaller black bird standing out in front of the snowfield. One more bird to count!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
ha! I thought about whether or not I should count the birds.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
The only thing special it is fish tank water which has a PH lower than my tap water. The usual fertilizer is added to the fish water.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
No. I've never sheltered it and treated with anything other than regular house air. It's a happy little tree. It really began to take off in the last 4-5 months. Good luck with the pests!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
I think this is a motivated tree. The flower may drop without producing fruit since it might not be old enough. Will see!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
I’m so excited! My citrus tree that I started growing from seed in 2022 has its first flower!! I’ve been growing it hydroponically since it was born. I started it from a Costco bought mandarin that had some seeds inside.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent

Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Hint. There’s a river near this rock.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent

Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
I took more photos of the outside from the inside yesterday. Please enjoy and I hope everyone has a nice weekend!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes. Doing photography for listings. More listings should have moose and that’s my goal. 😀
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
The owner staged this great. I was impressed!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
🫎😅
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
I started a thing where I take photos of the outside from the inside. I'm using my aurora lens since there's no aurora to photograph. My lens is so giddy with a new found purpose. If you are near Anchorage and think my aurora lens can help you, say hi! I can even guarantee a moose in the yard! 😀
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
Hump Day Bore Tide today! Despite be advertised as "big", this one was smaller than usual and slow. Pretty scene none the less!
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
I get lots of eye contact from moose. Then I wave at them.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
It was a warm glowing cap at least.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Related. There will be terrible moon viewing conditions.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social)
For the bore tide fans, the tidal swing is down into the -3s feet this week, peaking Wed/Thu for afternoon/evening bore tide.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
Nice. I wish we had lightning bugs here. I was denied lightning bugs growing up except for vacations.
Don Moore (@capture907.bsky.social) reply parent
This summer has not been a bad mosquito season yet, thankfully. I keep waiting for the shoe to drop.
