It's also annoying if the wound is on your dominant hand, so you have to change the dressing (& possibly do other tasks) using your off hand. I can say for a fact, slicing a finger open on your dominant hand is much more inconvenient than slicing a finger off your non-dominant hand.

Netflix had a couple of good series at one point, as did the other streaming platforms, if you want to check them out without buying an entire manga series (which do get pricey). But some of them are quite gory, so you might want to be careful if that sort of thing is triggering for you.
That whole genre has been handled much better in manga & anime than Hollywood or TV has ever managed.
