c4ss.org/content/31283 to the point. Labor unions are misunderstood today because they have become legalized and hence enmeshed with government. But an association of workers is just that. Especially in an era of monopsony.

A very basic test of Trump's justification for sending armed officials into DC (to reduce crime) is whether its residents feel safer or not. They do not. They are not going to public spaces. They are not going to restaurants. They are more afraid of the occupiers than risks from crime.

The word “content” —implying a commodity — is an offensive one to many. If Anthropic were making a public digital archive of the originals before pulping, in addition to the training, I’d be a bit less troubled. Let’s stop here as we are clearly misunderstanding one another. Have a good night.

I kept 1000s of cover slashed books I received in my teens for free from bookstore clerk friends and my job in a library, read them voraciously, then passed them on. From Camus to Vidal. I’m not typical, but also not alone in this.

I did read the article. My point was not about rarity or financial value. Literally every physical book in print is valuable to those who get to read them. And eventually most go out of print. Digitization of entire originals is one thing. Eating them up to train a model is another.

Also the standard library and bookstore ‘pulping’ is just removing covers and those books find their way into the used book community. When young and poor 1000s of coverless paperbacks of great books I got for free were my library. The sort of pulping this seems to be is destructive.

how you get that from my post is beyond me. as a very public anarchist my issue is the American definition of the only left as a statist one, left/right as the only axis. also here that fairness in reporting has anything to do with political position vs reporting fundamentals.

Newsweek your ‘fairness meter’ is so misconceived and immature I don’t know where to begin. Fairness is not a ‘balance’ of a mythical left and right.

great thread. full disclosure - early buoyant advisor and shareholder here. I am no longer actively involved but I think you are saying what no one else of stature is willing to say rn. OSS needs smaller projects w viable single commercial companies behind them and no bottomless vc behind that.

no resurgence except in my heart — and maybe a few others. My grandfather was a contemporary Swedish immigrant to Joe Hill(strom). UFW most authentic successor to the IWW.

no apologies necessary. public records will show my 4 fig donations were marianne williamson before she went full bernie, hillary clinton and harris. separately I will always give to the ufw when they call. always a wobbly. that does not make me ‘blue’ today nor give every ‘dem’ a right to text me.

several a day like this. I have few to screenshot bc I usually report junk which removes them. ACTBLUE! Also tons of calls. Many of the messages are from particular candidates in other jurisdictions too.
