Good. These liquids are dangerous. The strength of caffeine and any other booster is unnecessary and the sugar is way too much for an adult let alone a child. I've been to sudden deaths of young men who had heart attacks after these drinks, and it's awful.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
What gets abused? The Internet? People committing crimes? The stringent regulations on using forensic processes & digital equipment in the UK following the FSR Act and ISO requirements? It's actually really difficult to abuse the system and the companies won't sell the equipment to 'just anyone'!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Not really. Investig methods have changed. Look at the progress in forensic science, particularly in digital. It's not restrictive at all, unless you are trying to break the law obviously! See how this helps missing people, locates IIOC Internet use or gives a footprint of serious offenders.

They've pushed out a OS update over the summer, took me all my hours yesterday to implement and then change settings, download the programs I need & make my screen purple again! Tomorrow is catching up with the quality system. I deleted about 100 auto emails from that so expecting a fun day there!!

We've had this in the UK for years, the software is well used within policing worldwide. This is a non story tbh!

Aiming to reach the base closest to me, which also has ample parking & is on ground floor close to entry w/c 15th. My tech competencies are due + there are only so many SOP updates and new CMS refresher training I can do, plus I miss the teams. Was great to see them today online - actual adults!

Squatting is much easier & pushing out of the chair. Unfortunately the other leg is suffering from the pressure & now hurts more, or as much as it did previously! Car is back, so have driven a little, need to build up tolerance for the 50mile away work locations. That's an end of the month target!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Pain throughout has been OK. Gave up on the codeine first weekend as it upset other functions.. have been using naproxen to help with inflammation and physios have OK'd Volterol gel so I've used that some nights. Everyso often a movement returns, like balancing on the leg worked yesterday and

Knee update: ran out of paid sick days so back WFH on reduced hours ensuring I rest, stretch & physio. Still can't lift lower leg from flat position and limited strength to push up on stairs but apart from a wobble, it's getting there. Can walk without crutch, albeit slowly & back on exercise bike!

Of course ICE have access to this, just like every other police/security department who can afford the fee.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
None of that software is particularly secret or unusual for law enforcement or private companies to use. Two main players in the phone extraction field, one is Swedish, one is Israeli, the programs are often sold on by other companies who have their own similar, but not as advanced software.

Mine was pretty much dog shit when they were alive, now it's basically bones, egg shells (they don't stop slugs..) and hoover dust. My black bin might out every couple of months and then it's only a quarter full. No idea how people fill their black bins as very little left to go in there!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
If polystyrene type packaging, animal waste (litter trays and cages etc) or unprocessable food waste like bones that go in main rubbish. There are some plastics that councils state aren't recyclable (they are, but councils don't want to pay), so not sure how so many people fill black wheelie bins!!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
For your recycling, do you fold all your boxes etc and load the bin like tetris? That keeps everything much flatter. Squash bottles and tins and that saves space. For other rubbish, what are you creating? There should a be weekly food scraps bin or have your own compost. Can only think

See, those National front, combat 18 and BNP members didn't vanish, they regrouped, waited and now sense the time to be vocal again. Their beliefs haven't changed so why when proscribed orgs previously, ones with similar views currently aren't?
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
You can be strongly confident as well that those throwing the flags up, won't be supporting the team in the women's rugby that is starting this week!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
All too reminiscent of Combat 18 and the National Front, and those people still exist and need a more legitimate cover for their beliefs. Unfortunately the English flag is too linked with the yobs of football violence and those proscribed orgs and needs some decent PR to get over that.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent

We've found the example given in my initial post. We could also discuss how the Spanish on the islands feel about 'ex-pats' and the 2nd home owners and house prices etc, just like in Cornwall, but I'm sure Andrew the migrant is aware of those feelings. Put a line out, catch a fish!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Andrew the migrant. Got it!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
He is, his thread indicates he lives in Tenerife, and rightly trying to fight the change to EU residency stay limits, but if, like the people I know, applied for citizenship, he could then live there full time, and be a full on migrant. Perhaps he wants 'ex-pat' to mean second home resident!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
It's fluffy. Not everyone wants to have a linked patronage to their previous home. Don't you want to be called a migrant?
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Don't they? People migrate, they always have done. You've moved country and will likely move again, hence migrant. It's not a bad word. Far more exciting than sitting in the same house for 50yrs! Research body repatriation, it's quite interesting!!!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Skirting around the question, but I think you've demonstrated my point about British people calling themselves ex-pats not wanting to be referred to as migrants.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Arr, so you do live in Spain. Do you consider yourself to be an ex-pat?
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Hence, let's not use ex-pat, it creates groups and barriers. Why not move to using re-pat, where someone has taken up residence elsewhere. (Though this is usually for body movement...)
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
It's good to have a wide viewpoint to prevent bias, unfortunately media currently seems to ignore this. Poor you, looking at a DF, but you would have seen lots of love for ex-pats there, and little for the migrants, which again, highlights my point.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
It generally means English breakfasts in Benidorm, that it's ok for people with money to move but not for those moving for work or asylum. The point I made initially is that those who call themselves ex-pats often don't see themselves as migrants and you then get a tiered usage of the words.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Do you read the Daily Fail???
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
It certainly should, but is it? Where is this phrase regularly used for communities that aren't Brits that moved for the sun? Do we see it used in national press? No, because 'migrant' conjures other views in readers. You've moved, you're a migrant, let's be equal in terminology.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly!!!! However, recent events show this to happen quite a lot and the linked negative connotations to movement, hence my dislike of the fluffy and warm term 'ex-pat'!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, is Andrew a migrant? If so, that makes sense if wanting to be referred to as ex-pat and therefore evidences my point about views of terms regarding migration!!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't think either are bad words, just often used incorrectly. As Scot has implied, there is a racial element. White British people can move and be 'ex-pats', whereas brown people are those 'nasty migrants'. It's awful. Reporting and descriptions need less bias and more equal accuracy.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
As someone who works in Comms, you should be aware of the power of words & how terms are perceived. If someone has moved, they've migrated. I moved from Eng to Wal for years. Not permanent, but still a migrant. My issue with the term is that many who use it, don't see themselves as migrants.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
It's the phrasing, like the deliberate choice of youth, child or teen within a news report. Ex-pat sounds friendly & therefore acceptable, whereas migrants, not so much. News and publications need to be equal in their descriptions, but then they turn to the phrase which gains 'most clicks'!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
So leaving their own country equals migrant. There are many examples of Brits that move that don't attempt to integrate, I know some in Spain. Lived there 25 yrs, still can't speak Spanish & refers to himself & Brit neighbours as ex-pat not immigrant. Is it the money that makes the difference???
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
This was shown on UK Sky Mix last week, seems odd that we've past another sci-fi date.

Catching up with #TheOrville and delight to see both The Doctor and Doctor Phlox in S2.Ep3. With Cassidy Yates as a full time crew member, it's great to see a strong #StarTrek link beyond the obvious. Hooray for Disney showing this as I lost all access years ago when changing tv supplier.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Perhaps it's gone up since January. It's perfectly feasible considering who now lives there!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Those poor immigrants in a Britannia hotel, they really are an awful hotel chain. To travel this far, end up in a shit hotel with a £8pw stipend and a likelihood of working in our fields or warehouses, they really must have had a terrible time in their home country.

Don't mention the Malpas tunnels though!! Total chaos on that!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Only 18yrs ago? I moved to Wales on 2004 and pretty sure they and hospital parking were both free then, which was a nice surprise. Far more investment in local train lines w/ route subsidies, and hospitals updated (see Ebbw Vale for both), though EU funding initially used, as per the new A465.

Physio update, a bit disappointing, shown as a 'class', so 5 of us, but basically a review of wound & stretch info we were given on the ward. Knee angles measured & to return in 2wks. I've got good bend but still unable to lift. Advised to do one exercise to help that.. will continue with all!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social)
Watching #StarTrek #DS9 S3 Ep11. Chroniton affects transport & Sisko etc end up in 2024. Weird to think we are have past that date, but whilst some aspects are sci-fi, the segregation & spilt of classes is emphasised with a removal of unwanted people to a 'district'. That's more realistic sadly.

I get one physio appt as included in the NHS clinic then a consultant call at 6 wks. They do want to see people to check on the joint position and healing along with giving more physio if needed. It's a day out of my house so a bit of excitement to the routine of tv and stretching!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Knee update: almost 3 weeks & the wound is healing well, I'm walking with one crutch and have managed most of the bend and lift control, though going down stairs is a bit hairy and I cannot lift my lower leg upwards when lying down but with physio on weds, I'm hoping for a bit of progress on that.

After several years of no rises or less than 2%, the recent increases have been welcome. The arguing over 0.5% was relevant when all we would get was 1.5% then a fight again the next year back in the 2010s but sensible increases help even if not a patch on how much everything has gone up.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
That's better than expected and thankfully before the break rather in Sept as recently thought. Hopefully all forces will pay staff the same and they get it into pay packets quickly rather than arguing for more. After 4.75 last year, I was calculating for less than 3 this time, so good news!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Are they the 60% that aren't voting? With an average of less than 40% turnout for recent local elections, there is a huge apathy in the whole system.

Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
It will though. There is an obvious link between 10+yr old kids accessing porn, basic stuff and then moving up to extreme to then uploading images they find, create etc as they now think this behaviour is normal. It's about resensitising the world again to the *hit that is on the internet.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Like police officers? That's going to help morale and send more to NZ, who do seem to have amazing payments and worklife balance. If people who have studied for years, work awful shifts and save lives only earn a few pounds more than those in shop, then something is wrong. Pay them properly!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Is that because many have been upset they can't access their porn, tractor based or otherwise? If legal age and acceptable content then why the issue? If not, then stop looking at extreme stuff, animals and children can't consent!!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, depends if you work in the field. With 15yr old suspects uploading IIOC because the search history has moved from 'normal' porn to sight extreme to then niches and strong extreme, some guidance to prevent this is needed. CASM has many victims, and we should be doing what we can to stop it!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Would make more sense to ban dropbox type websites & ensure parents actually watch what their teens view online. With 15yr olds now being suspects in upload of IIOC cases, it is clear that easy access to porn builds apathy & boredom into more extreme viewing. Put the Internet back into a corner!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
I can't believe this man was deemed responsible/respectable enough to be chosen as a politician, let alone head party & be up for Presidential election. Oh wait, he's paid his way!! Similar to other new councillors with no previous public service/council experience and straight to paid roles!

Definitely, though most of the world is pretty clear about the faults of trumpet. I'm not sure how it could be made clearer to his followers! (I work in the field of IIOC/CSE prosecution so get tetchy about incorrect terms. The media are the worst!)
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Not 'underage', you mean child. You are intimating that some girls/children are overage. Is a 16yr old still a girl? No they are older teens. (*dependant on area's legal consent.) Good to see the term rape. So many reports on this topic use phrases that attempt to legitimise the actions.

They do, as do forensic units, but with better oversight & HO management there are now different reporting rules in place. Training has been updated & changed as well, & many of the old 'we've always done it this way' sweats have now gone, which is a blessing! CPS short staffed everywhere still.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Having worked in policing for over 20yrs in various forces, I'm aware of what used to happen, and also the difficulties in actually getting a case through to CPS and a trial. A response PC would run all cases through a sgt/inps and cases like this reviewed by another dept before sending a file.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
It def used to be, then the influx of criming everything raised figures. Now with the mandatory communication and review dates, there should be far less 'cuffing'. If anything, recently I've seen more work added to cases where a simpler approach would have been resolved with less box ticking
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, because that will cost less! Why not look at the cause of crime and instead invest in education and welfare and aim for a long term reduction??
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Tbf, courts are running about 4yrs behind for non guilty cases. Wonder if CPS determined it wasn't a case with a likelihood of winning or not in the public interest. Offender has had a stronger punishment now with the public release of information and losing his seat I would imagine.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
I did query this with nurse and apparently the closure choice depends on the surgeon. I did get private physio appt, like my friend, but believe this is a group NHS session rather than her 121. Drugs are supplied by hospital but only a week and then have to go back or ask GP.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Thankfully I've been doing the exercises for some time just to maintain normal mobility (& my fully private friend gave me her book). Differences between us, I've had to sort my own 2wk wound check up at my local GP & friend went back to hospital. She also got glue and stitches and I got staples.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
I am also on my own. Did have 2 days at family which was lovely but the peace at mine is welcome. Nursing staff were concerned I have no one at home, but then also on my own when joints have popped/torn previously! Would be nice for someone to swap those ice packs, bring water & move bags though!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
Had a replacement on Weds through local private hospital via NHS clinic. It already works better, hurts less & more reliable than it was previously. I've got EDS hypermobility so regained full movement quickly, but EDS meant the anesthesia didn't work so needed stronger blocks & longer rec time.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
That was for the land on the other side of the road next to a current industrial site. It was thought this one would also be rejected. Obv the council changed between votes, but despite requests, the reform planning committee have given no reasons for their vote.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
They already have with the recent NNC planning committee authorising more huge warehouses on farmland just outside a small town. Reform didn't visit the area and even blocked the town council from speaking. A possible 5m council tax is worth more to reform than listening to residents.
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
That's because they didn't realise the old building spaces had been rented out to NHS or sold off to pay that huge debt and therefore no actual space for people to return. Useless, wouldn't have taken more than 10secs asking staff to find this out!
Char (@charmv.bsky.social) reply parent
So true. I had bad knees at 14 so that resonated then. At 44, I've just had a knee replacement. Quote this to all the youngsters and they look at me like I've got 3 heads!
