One of the definitive days of this admin imo was the WSJ identifying racist posts from a DOGE staffer - the kind of stuff that would be read out loud to you as HR explains why you're not getting severance - and Vance saying no, we won't let the media cancel people anymore.

The Framers made arguably one major mistake: They believed the legislative branch would jealously guard its power. They could not have fathomed that the legislative branch (Out of laziness, raw partisanship and a desire to keep their sinecures) would willingly surrender its power.

I’m not sure there’s a way back to civilization for adults who’s moral compass allows them watch a little girl, shackled at the wrists and ankles, limp up the stairs to Prison Airways and not quit on the spot. “Guys I’m not doing this.” And you walk away. That’s the only acceptable human reaction.

People who are like “I bought my Tesla before Elon turned evil” forget that in 2018 he called a guy who helped rescue those Thai kids stuck in a cave a “pedo” because the guy rightly said the mini-sub Musk sent was useless for the mission. Keep that in mind when reading this thread.

With deepest respect, the fact that “a lot of people study satire in school” is one of the reasons “I studied satire in college” is not the flex he thinks it is.
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
I didn’t make the picture. I simply looked at it and thought, “Ha. That’s funny.” And, yes, you are correct: By chuckling internally at an AI image I am “acting exactly like” people who are enabling a facist takeover of our country. Those are definitely the same thing.

Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
Pretty sure it was the two people who offered their experience either teaching or studying satire in college as an attempt to, as I said “prove, academically” that something is not funny.

Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
Or they just don’t think it’s funny? Different people find different things funny. But the notion that one can “prove”, academically, that something is or is not funny is nonsense.
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
Got it. It’s only satire if it comes from the Satìrie region of France. Otherwise it’s just sparkling jokes.

Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
I know what you mean, but to me the fascinating thing about this interview is that Calacanis makes no attempt to mask anything. He just cheerfully mentions that Trump is doing well because the stock market hasn’t crashed and Lina Khan can’t be mean to his friends anymore.

I actually don’t think Calacanis is a grifter. I believe Tim when he said at the beginning that he believes JC argues his positions in good faith. That’s why JC doesn’t bother hide anything. He *really believes* that America is fine as long as tech oligarchs are doing well and he just… says it.
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
He was so breezily stoked about the imminent arrival of human-free Amazon delivery. Once the government helps us use AI to eliminate both entry- and mid-level jobs, Tim, just think of how marginally cheaper goods will become!

"We've spent a lot of money on the military and now they have nothing to do so we might as well let the president use it domestically to satisfy his own petty grudges" is precisely why the Founders feared a standing army. I mean, it's pretty much fucking verbatim.
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
OMG, I listened to Andreessen’s appearance on the Rogan podcast at the behest of a Trump-y relative. The full 2.5 hours or whatever. You’re correct. It’s the same nonsense right down to openly complaining that the Biden administration wouldn’t let tech oligarchs bribe them.
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes! At first I was like “Yell more, Tim!” But I think the reaction to JC happily confirming every possible criticism of tech oligarchs is more revealing.
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
I don’t disagree with your take on Tim’s level of pushback. In the moment I was like “START YELLING AT HIM, DAMNIT.” But Tim sorta ended up giving JC enough rope to hang himself. Over and over and over again. To the point that JC cheerfully admits to being a lefty fever dream version of himself.
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
“Hey, could you guys just go back to being the Unabomber?”
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
The most “Burn It All Down” moment for me might be when he cheerfully excuses Trump making the tech industry bribe him because, essentially, tech oligarchs can afford to pay bribes. His whole position can be boiled down to “Unlike Biden, Trump lets us bribe him. Therefore, he is good.”
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
Did you watch the video? I just listened to the audio version and I had a similar reaction to yours at first. But if you watch some of the video clips I think it’s more clear that JC is reeeeeeeally uncomfortable and Tim is laughing at him the whole time.
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
There are too many Tim Robinson Focus Group sketch “He admits it!” moments to count. Crying that Lina Khan made it marginally more difficult for him and his tech oligarch buddies to run their galaxy-sized Ponzi schemes was one of them.
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
His tone is “I’m a reasonable guy!” but he doesn’t even try to hide that he only thinks Trump is doing a good job because Trump is good for him and his tech oligarch pals. “Tim, Trump is good *for me and my billionaire friends*. What about that don’t you understand?”
Chris Nowak (@chrisnowak.bsky.social) reply parent
JC: “… I actually hate politics.” Tim, giggling, “You sure spend a lot of time talking about it.” JC, “Uhhhhhhh, uhhh, I have to. Because (something something both sides bad).”
