450 pages???? Dear God, this man needed me. (Full disclosure: I run a freelance editing business, mostly novels, some nonfiction. Because I love language, I'm good at it, and I'm also the kind of person who spots every single typo on a restaurant menu without even trying.)

So, thought experiment here: if one wanted to address discrimination against women without using the jargon word "patriarchy," one might say something like, "It's unfair to treat men like they matter and women like they don't." Acceptable? Or is it the issue that should be avoided?

See, now, this makes sense. Speak naturally, from the heart, and never mind anything else. I loathe jargon words of any kind. They get in the way of clear communication. OTOH, it's *incredibly* annoying that once again, only one "side" apparently needs to watch its language... (sigh)
