Trump shouldn’t set the agenda for Democrats. Cuomo, Adams and Sliwa are all puppets who will gladly obey Trump.

The fact that CNN tried to push this transparent bulllshit a few days ago is embarrassing. It’s beyond obvious that Putin has played Trump again and again over the last few months and Trump is afraid to respond in any way.

In a lot of ways, European countries also even more provincial than the US. I’m thinking about it, and Texas may be the only US state that comes close in terms of approximating it since it has its own revolutionary war story (and how that’s taught, or was).

It’s ahistorical nonsense that only makes sense if you look at it as expressly meaning white people, because many of the “nations” he’s talking about aren’t really ancient at all. bsky.app/profile/reic...

Everyone is making the obvious point here about who this would exclude. I want to make a different point. I’ve said before we don’t share values with these people. Schmitt could not make that more clear: He wants you to trade *everything* for a nation of white people.

This is Radley’s piece from May of last year. He was one of the only journalists that really gave mass deportation the focus it deserved, and corporate media did a huge disservice to the public by not making it clear that it was going to look like it does now.

I’m sorry but facts don’t care about your feelings. If you are blaming Democrats in 2025 for COVID policy in 2020 you have been brainwashed by Trumpism and the death of expertise. The basic point is that Trump associated COVID with his fate in office. That’s it. press.princeton.edu/books/hardco...

This is our argument. The core explanation for America’s disastrous response to COVID-19 is partisanship. The Trump administration and its partisan allies chose to politicize the pandemic by associating it with Trump’s own fate in office. That decision cast the subsequent response to the COVID-19 pandemic as primarily about partisan politics rather than public health. This partisan response was all-encompassing, touching everything that the pandemic touched , from health behavior to policy views to worries about the election that occurred during the pandemic’s peak. And as these differences persisted, they metastasized. Partisanship undermined Americans’ social solidarity—their willingness to adopt behaviors to protect others and sometimes themselves—and became the core framework through which Americans interpreted and elected officials reacted to the pandemic. Those differences in opinions and the differences in the behaviors that follow have cost hundreds of thousands of American lives. And after two years of pandemic politics the policy landscape is forever changed, as formerly bipartisan issues—such as measles and polio vaccine requirements for schoolchildren and trust in experts—are now politicized like never before.

Alas, this is Wilhoit’s insight at work again. It’s a “tyrannical federal government” when policies protect (or are benign toward) out groups; it’s time to cheer when the government deploys arms in “inner cities” on behalf of in groups.

Trump’s theory of people is that they are just as hollow as he is, that any show of virtue, character, or principle is just a con. The most disturbing thing about the Trump era is how comprehensively he has been proven right.

Wilhoit’s Law in action. They need the guns to protect themselves from tyrannical government, but if they’re the ones doing the tyranny, then it’s all good.
