*cracks knuckles* okay so you know how the media has a problem with taking snippets of scientific studies out of context and writing articles which mislead the public? now imagine a computer program is doing that when you ask it questions about scientific literature but also it makes stuff up.

Well worth the money. Years later we are dogless, but still have that cover in the trunk of our hatchback where it now protects against damage from groceries and other random loads.

When we had our dog who was part lab/part something that sheds like a thing that can't keep hair on it's body at all, we got a removable car seat cover for the back. It came out easy enough when needed, was much simpler to keep clean, and provided extra protection in general.

It's the early 19th Century and Mr Charles Dillon has presented this view of York to the Lord Mayor of York. It looks at first glance like a fairly ordinary study of our fair City...until you look a little closer. Join us for an in depth look. 🧐🧵

We are looking at a hand coloured tint of York from Lamel Hill on the outskirts of the city. There are fields and cottages and then in the distance is York Minster and various smoking chimneys. A group of two women and one man are stood admiring the view.

Great piece in the Globe today about the Air Canada strike

The problem is that, if governments keep showing such disregard for workers' fundamental rights, we shouldn't be surprised if workers start showing more disregard for government orders. To paraphrase Mr. Pearson, if workers are to be told through repeated invocations of Section 107 that they can never strike, one may be precipitating the very thing one is trying to prevent. It does not appear that the flight attendants intend to return to work any time soon. If so, it will then be the government's turn to figure out how to respond. A second, more forceful e-mail to the CIRB likely won't cut it. We could see a situation similar to the Ontario education workers' standoff with the Ford government in 2022, especially if other unions move beyond statements of support to more concrete forms of solidarity with the flight attendants. At that point we may discover that what initially seemed to be a clever way to bypass workers' rights has turned out to be a fuse to light a new labour revolt in Canada.

Sugar pears? Guelph? We went to Milton today and didn't see them, but I would go to Guelph for sugar pears. Haven't seen them in yonks.

I admire Mo Salah's restraint. "Farewell". Really? Suleiman al-Obeid was killed by the IDF as he was queuing for food in Gaza. Say it, you cowards.

This is so wrong. These items should belong to Canadians. They're our history.

Wild case of ChatGPT almost killing a guy by telling him to substitute sodium bromine for table salt (sodium chloride) #medsky www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/...

With improvement, he was able to report that he had recently noticed new-onset facial acne and cherry angiomas, fatigue, insomnia, subtle ataxia, and polydipsia, further suggesting bromism. He also shared that, after reading about the negative effects that sodium chloride, or table salt, has on one's health, he was surprised that he could only find literature related to reducing sodium from one's diet. Inspired by his history of studying nutrition in college, he decided to conduct a personal experiment to eliminate chloride from his diet. For 3 months, he had replaced sodium chloride with sodium bromide obtained from the internet after consultation with ChatGPT, in which he had read that chloride can be swapped with bromide, though likely for other purposes, such as cleaning. Gradually, over the course of a 3-week admission, his chloride and anion gap normalized and psychotic symptoms improved. He was tapered off risperidone before discharge and remained stable off medication at a check-in 2 weeks after discharge. His bromide level ultimately was 1700 mg/L (21 mmol/L; reference range, 0.9 to 7.3 mg/L).
