This is so sad. We were a middle class family & went a lot when I was a kid because whenever anyone visited us in CA we took them there. It was still relatively expensive but not like this. Last visit was 10 years ago and I doubt we will go back now.
Since we are closing in on peak COVID surge, we are moving our train trip to Ventura from September to October. Turns out saves us $100 on the hotel. Bonus

Yup. Spouse once forgot to pack underwear of all things. Easily found if you are traveling to a city. I once forgot dress shoes for a reception. Also easily found at a mall. In fact I liked those shoes better than the ones I had planned to bring.
It takes years to get UVisa approved but with his good lawyer this should expedite his application review. If they actually follow the law.
For those unfamiliar with the U-Visa for crime victims: you get documentation, apply, get in a yrs long line (6 yrs to approval for person I helped). Once U-Visa approved, you get work permit but are in another yrs long wait for green card. In the waiting process you are not subject to removal.

Just got home from a walk with stop at grocery.
Right? I selected exercise daily, but since it’s just walking not running or anything that intense. OTOH from the activity calculator on the watch it takes a lot of walking to burn any calories. I can walk miles and see 90 calories burned. Sigh
I just used a online calculator to determine how many calories a day I should eat for age, height, weight, activity etc and it’s 1488. That’s with walking 5-8 miles a day. Curse of being little. So, Yeah, nobody come at me for how little it looks like I am eating, sigh.

This is not to say they were perfect. Back then it was pretty hands off parenting. Half the time we were running amok or riding bikes through lemon groves or climbing onto the roof of the school. I could have used a little more parenting to tell the truth, & the Asian mom thing about weight is real.
My greatest generation dad was awesome, about as great as you can get. Generous, kind, brilliant, very liberal. Mom suffered from trauma of growing up in WW2 Japan, tho she was generous in her way, & my kids adored her. Am trying to model my life after my dad. Still miss him every day.
